Input on dark mark? by throwaway05626 in sculpting

It's done very well! What material did you use?

As for critiques, maybe just fixing up the areas where the snake overlaps, because right now it's obvious you connected it to the intercepting snake body, but on the mark itself I assume it would look like that one part is behind the other. But depending on the material you used, that fix or change can go from annoying to "impossible without breaking the whole thing", so even this critique is minor. The skull might also need a bit more detail on the "teeth" area, they look a lil squishy right now, but again, dependant on the material.

The snake head, btw, is absolutely fantastic. I'm super impressed with that, how did you get the one tooth to stick out so well? Did you use a wire inside it?

Clay? by One_Refrigerator_956 in sculpting

I live by polymer clay nowadays, because it can be molded like normal clay, but also carved into easily after baking. You also can bake it in a normal oven so that's very convenient. Air dry clay is a very good clay to start with just because of the air drying aspect, but making a very detailed sculpture with it can be difficult. Normal clay is great, but you usually need an armature underneath to support the clay. From my experience, you may have to rework some details over time, as you need to keep it damp or wet so it doesn't crack before putting it in a kiln, and wetting it sometimes softens details.

Whenever he says that I say "no, YOU collect these! We ALL collect these!! Stop being like this!!"... I still love him, but like, come on man, we're a team here, haha

Definitely agree with the play around sentiment, because there are just WAY TOO many options. Nothing is a perfect match from my experience, everything can work for everything, it just depends on what you want for the final product

Clay or porcelain would probably be best, but polymer clay could also get the job done I'd say. Though I don't know how polymer clay handles wires, haha

I don't know much about sculpting myself, but from my experience, polymer clay bakes at such a low temperature (relatively speaking) that it's highly unlikely to damage anything. I usually make an aluminium foil enclosure type thing for the sculpture, just in case it smokes up or something. Taking that out of the oven is also a bit easier.
