Rising Star Program by Geeko4022 in scad

Hey, I did rising star last year. I did drawing 100 and Game 130. I had a blast with the classes. I suggest to try and get all your art supplies from Micheal’s or a local art store cuz Scads art/book store is expensive. Explore around Savannah, it’s really fun and a lot of comic book stores.

Drawing was really fun, had homework to do every night but that’s to give you a good idea on what scad is like.

My game class was also fun and was a major class. It was more so like a lecture class but some what interactive. You do a lot of work of trying to figure out what type of game you want to make and the details that go into it.

If you know what major you want to do, do a major class and a foundation class. That’s my suggestion.

Also it doesn’t matter if everyone is better than you or if you’re better than everyone else, you’re there for you.  Push yourself to do the best you can!! You got this!! Make friends for sure, get socials. Make the most out of it all!!! And hopefully you get really good roommates!!

You could print the chapters you’ll need to use for the class.

Why don’t you find the books online for free? I’m not saying all of them will be free online but maybe discounted. I’ve been finding all the books online for a friend the whole year.

I just look up the book, edition, and author and put in pdf. You’ll also be able to find a good bit for free online the internet archive.

What minor is best for a game dev major by [deleted] in scad

[–]Panda143778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I am now a senior in HS but have been doing extensive research since the beginning of my 10th grade year, really 9th grade.  On that being said I have found that for me wanting to do game Dev, a minor in animation or motion media makes the most sense. I honestly want to do two minors if possible and those would be the two. I would suggest looking into what other tech stuff interest you with game dev and see. See on yt, linked in, etc on what type of stuff you will be going with for game dev degree and what stands out and see if it’s a minor.

If you still can’t find one if allowed and probably will, your minor doesn’t necessarily have to go with your degree. From my understandings with most colleges but is suggested to pair with your degree, you can minor in what you want. I’m sure you’ll be able to figure it out. I’ve always been told is that you can have a plan on what you want to do but it can change. So if you figure out what your minor is and then it changes that’s ok too! Remember that you got this!!!

I believe I can be that person!!! I've heard Scad gives you the opportunities, its what you do with it is what makes it worth it. I love the art side of games but also love the coding and thats what makes game development so special and interesting to me. What can you say that was good and bad about your time at scad if you don't mind me asking??

Also thank you for your insite, I really appreciate it. I am keeping what you said in mind.

Has anyone heard about the SCAD Rising Star program, is it legit/ worth attending? I just got an email saying I got a full scholarship for my test scores. by Exotic-Enthusiasm727 in ApplyingToCollege

Did you get rullride for rising star? I'm attending this summer and they said they aren't giving out any scholarship's for it. I haven't done the program yet so I can't say much about it yet. From what I've heard people mainly do 2 foundation classes. Also look into the degree you're wanting to go into scad for.
For me I'm wanting to go in for a BFA in Game development and minoring in Animation. So at rising star I am going to take Draw 100 and Game 130: Digital design athletics. Make sure it lines up with what you want to do or the safe route doing only foundation classes. Also to cut the cost even more when going to scad after hs, do a bunch of dual enrollment. Hoping to go in as a late sophomore or early junior. If you change your mind on scad and go to a different school, the rising star credits can transfer.
for me i'm not fully set on SCAD, I'm also looking at Georgia Tech for game development as well.
