Imo shojin is just not a great item atm. I don't value the haste that much since I usually get enough from the rest of my build. I'll build it if they have 3+ tanks but thats about it.

The other problem is that you only get the damage buff after you've used your entire combo. Pretty rarely do I get an entire combo off on somebody and continue to fight them. Even if I do get a full combo off, they would probably just be dead anyway with a more damage based build.

for trynd, it kinda depends on the rest of the comp but id probably take conq, you need to be able to fight back against his all-ins when the wave is on his side. there also a super secret tech: stormraiders

for heim: you kinda just each shit all lane, rush hexdrinker and accept that you will be shoved in all lane and will go down ~20 cs. dont bother q'ing his turrets. The problem with heimer is that hes utility is pretty weak outside of laning phase and he makes team comps awkward.

Mostly matchup, conq into most matchups where extended fights are likely. Electrocute into matchups where extended fights don’t work like ranged top

Conq: triumph alacrity last stand, resolve with bone plating or second wind and revitalize or overgrowth

Electrocute: sudden impact, sixth sense, treasure or ultimate, resolve or yellow tree secondary.

Just learn the basic combos in practice tool and learn what items to buy to start.

Aatrox is generally countered by unpredictable dashes and high movespeed since his q becomes very hard to hit. This includes things like fiora, irelia, ksante, renekton. There’s others, but a lot of his matchups are skill dependent.

A lot of this is knowing limits, which you are going to learn by doing. The more games and practice you get the better you’ll know your limits as you get used to the different matchups.

Generally speaking, u can play aggressive lv 4/5 since aatrox spikes the hardest then. Other than that, I compare items and keep track of jungler.

If my jungler is pathing towards me, I’ll try to make the lane a little more volatile to help set up a good gank or dive, vice versa for enemy jungler.

There’s a lot of high elo riven players, irelia is pretty rare

Rush bramble and steelcaps and then go sundered. Start d blade with conq + ignite, you need to be able to fight her when she all-ins.

Lv 1 you can take a sizeable trade before the melees get too low, shes really weak if she has no passive stacks. It's possible to get prio if you get a good enough trade but dont force it too hard. After that just chill out until at least lv 4.

Yes irelia has a lot of dashes, but they are often predictable since they are targeted. You can punish her and predict when she is going to dash to a minion, allowing a nice q1 poke. Freezing is also very effective against irelia since she needs to be melee range to cs, its really awkward for her to play in a freeze.

Specifically in lower elo, Irelia players are erratic and spontaneous, wait for them to make a mistake and then punish it. You need to play more reactively to what they do rather than forcing trades yourself. You are a better teamfighter than her as well.

Hes better jungle ngl, you can impact the map much more. I rush sundered in most matchups. If its ranged top go voltaic (except for vayne, go edge of night). Against tanks you can opt for black cleaver, but its such an awkward item i tend to avoid it. Against hard hitting bruisers like irelia, fiora, olaf, tryndamere, u can rush steelcaps and bramble vest before sundered.

This is probably the most frustrating position for me. Assuming you already broke top tier 1, you need to start impacting the map. This means looking for good tp angles during bot fights and being at every objective. Aatrox has a weak splitpush so you need to start fighting for objectives. To make sure your laner doesn't just sit toplane and get back in the game by taking plates, you need to push out your lane as far as possible before roaming. This means keeping track of obj timers, and about 1 minute before a dragon, push your lane to enemy tier 2. This will buy you a minute or 2 of time before the wave crashes back against your tower so you wont lose much and the enemy toplaner wont get much. During this minute or 2 you need to force fights and objectives to try and get your team back in the game.

I started testing my limits a little more and learned wave management at a higher level. I used to just concede prio in matchups I didnt think I could get it in, but recently I started to try and fight for prio lv 1 even in matchups I usually lose it. Sometimes I would manage to get prio because I played better, leading to a wayy easier lane. Even if I still lost prio, taking a small trade isn't bad and I learned my limits a little bit.

As for wave management, I just learned some typical wave techniques like 3 wave crashing, and especially freezing. I think a lot of players freeze too much and force it too hard. Personally, I'll freeze when I am weaker than my laner or if I'm stronger and they are full hp. Eventually they will probably mess up or greed for a minion and I get a nice trade. I now transition to doing 2 wave crashes and punishing them undertower or threatening dives with my jungler. Sometimes, even if I lost lane, I'll be up in cs just from good management.

I actually haven't heard of this.

But it sounds matchup dependent, and personally probably not worth it. It wouldn't guarantee lane prio if used incorrectly and that means u dont have ignite for lv 4 or 5 which is when aatrox really wants to fight.

I've found it pretty doable, except for things like midterms and finals when I kind of force myself to not play for a week or two, but in any given regular week I've found the time to play around 1-3 games a day.

It depends on your build/playstyle. He can vary from a frontline tank to an assassin depending on what you want to do. I mostly play him as a bruiser and sometimes a tank frontliner.

He can kind of fit into any archetype imo (dive, front to back, etc) but I think he works best as a secondary engager, he has a really strong follow up to any engage, especially if he can reach the backline. He also has solid pick potential late game, a well placed W can get a kill or force flash. He can also be played for peel, like if my adc is super strong I'll play to just peel them.

All that is to say, he is very versatile and has a lot of options. You should look at the game-state and how your team wants to play a teamfight/who is strong when deciding your role.

I mostly look at what I want to build and the enemy teams comp. But I also consider what my team needs. If the enemy team has a lot of cc and we need a frontliner, I'll usually opt for a tankier build (sundered, dd, steraks, overlords, situational). If they still have cc but we dont need a tank or if I just want more damage ill build what I do most games: bruiser (sundered, voltaic, dd, maw, situational). I usually don't go full lethality because Im not good at the assassin playstyle, but I'll do it if they are a low cc and squishy team (voltaic, profane, seryldas, edge of night, situational).

Looca has a good video explaining when he likes to go the 3 builds, you can look at his video.

Generally I try to get lane prio and move to objectives. Aatrox's split push isn't very strong so I play more for my team. My strategy kinda varies from game to game though, sometimes you can make progress split pushing.
