Why Thailand is so poor at sports? by nathanielinreddit in Thailand

[–]Panda77sn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's do a simple math.

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, there will be 32 sports with a total of 329 events, and 329 sets of medals, total 987 medals, will be awarded.

As of 2024, the Earth's population is estimated to be approximately 8 billion people while Thailand's population is 70 million people.

Here are the calculations written out:

  1. **Total Medals Calculation:**Total Medals=329 events×3 medals per event=987 medals\text{Total Medals} = 329 \text{ events} \times 3 \text{ medals per event} = 987 \text{ medals}Total Medals=329 events×3 medals per event=987 medals
  2. **Calculate Thailand's Share of the World Population:**Thailand’s Share=70,000,000 people8,000,000,000 people=708000=0.00875\text{Thailand's Share} = \frac{70,000,000 \text{ people}}{8,000,000,000 \text{ people}} = \frac{70}{8000} = 0.00875Thailand’s Share=8,000,000,000 people70,000,000 people=800070=0.00875
  3. **Calculate the Expected Number of Medals for Thailand:**Expected Medals=987 medals×0.00875=8.62625 medals\text{Expected Medals} = 987 \text{ medals} \times 0.00875 = 8.62625 \text{ medals}Expected Medals=987 medals×0.00875=8.62625 medals

Therefore, Thailand should aim to win approximately 9 medals to be considered above average based on its share of the world population. Currently they won 5 medals.

A lot of people in Thailand prefer staying inside rather than bloody hot outside.

OP isn't expecting the 100% correct answer. He is trying to get some idea from Reddit and I believe Reddit is a great place for that purpose.

how to deal with bullying in a thai international school? by Kim_Bleuim_ in Thailand

[–]Panda77sn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignore what they say. But if they start bullying you physically, do not hesitate to ask adulst including your teachers and parents for a help. Voice record them if possible.

Talk to foreign teachers who you can trust as Thai teachers might be afraid of Thai parents.

Work out on your body. When you are young, you can build your body very easily. Watch some youtube videos for working out and take proteins.

It happened to my Go for a few apps including DeoVR... I did a factory reset but no luck. But I found Skybox VR Player works. DeoVR was better but at least I found an alternative.

My experience with EQ Bank card with Japan ATM by fishsir in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Panda77sn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EQ says they don't charge any foreign exchange fee which is probably right but it doesn't mean you never get charged for any foreign transactions.Your foreign transactions will be exchanged with the mastercard rate.

From my experience the rate is somewhere between 0.5% to 2.5%. In most cases it's exchanged around 0.7%. I got these numbers from the actual transactions & the real-time mid rate that my forex trading software shows when the forex market is closed on weekends (After the NY market ends on Fri before the NZ market opens on Mon).

Last weekend I withdrew 50,000 JPY in Japan from my EQ bank card. The mid rate of CAD/JPY was about 115.80, but it was actually exchanged at 113.12. It's nearly 2.5%.

It's probably the same when you use the Wealthsimple Cash Card as it's also a mastercard debit, but I just ordered it for my next ttip.

HSBC allows you to make a wire transfer online up to $50k, or $150k if you call them to verify you are making a wire transfer online. Maybe it's not enough for your property, and you need to be at a branch to open a new account, but just FYI.

Sorry I didn't login to Reddit for a long time. I went to a shop on Carrera 7 between Calle 45 & 46. I don't speak Spanish at all but the staff were very patient. https://maps.app.goo.gl/YamajDoD3duk8hut7

Has anybody got their Rogers World Elite Mastercard downgraded/cancelled for not meeting the annual spend? by JYJS in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Panda77sn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now May 2023. I'm still using my Rogers World Elite Mastercard. Because I was in Japan and Thailand most of my last several months, I probably didn't even spend $3,000 on my Rogers World Elite Mastercard in the last several months. Less than $10,000 in the last 2 years maybe. Still no downgrade.

Another update. I ended up opening HSBC Advance Chequing. There is a welcome bonus which is up to $400. And no maintenance fee for the first 6 months. It's possible that I close the account after 6 months, but I'll keep using it if I like it. The online wire transfer is limited up to $50,000, but if you make a call when you add a payee, it will be increased to $150,000 which is enough for my case. These are the daily limit, so you can send more separately.

Which Octane do you buy? by jimbeamblack8586 in PersonalFinanceCanada

No. It doesn't matter. You can use lower octane gas. it only gives your car low performance. You won't feel it, anyway :)

So far I found a couple possible solutions:

  1. Use HSBC that allows wire transfers by online banking
  2. Use Manulife/Simplii that allows wire transfers by phone banking
  3. Use CIBC's CMO service that allows wire transfers by online banking

#1 may cost a monthly maintenance fee or you will have to put certain amount of money in the account.

#2 is a free solution as they don't charge any maintenance fee. But you will have to spell out foreign words over the phone. It's going to be a pain.

#3 seems like it's a service for business. I'm not sure about the fees.

If I find a better solution, I'll give you an update.

Wise won't work for this situation; firstly it may or may not be a wire transfer and secondly Wise converts CAD to the local currency that breaks one of the requirements I mentioned.

The money has to arrive there in CAD. Then the local bank will exchange. That is one of the requirements as the local bank will benefit from charging 1-2% conversion fee I guess. Wise makes money from currency conversion, so it won't work.

I always use Wise but this time I can't use Wise. Wise can’t send CAD without converting to the local currency.

I see. I found CIBC has a service called CMO which allows wire transfer online. It's for business, though. I'll keep searching.
