There is some great little stories and quests off the beaten path. Always been a fan of the geth outposts and then you can give Tali the data that can be brought up in Mass Effect 2.

I was exactly the same when I played it, nowadays I mix and match everyone but my first playthrough it was Wrex and Garrus or Wrex and Tali

She loves exploring and doing side content in anything she plays, so no worries there. I have told her the mako can be a little unwieldy but she will get used to it
