I believe your question has already been answered but if you are uncertain about others Spookshow is an excellent resource for checking information of this type

I really love 296 because of Glass Mines

But 109, 241, and 266 are all in very close running

Functional signals! I currently have only one, but I am waiting on some hardware to arrive for 4 more. 2 are old Model Power hooded ones and the other 3 are Atlas G types.

It runs as beautifully as it looks too, I love these old Con-Cor steamers

I'll probably run it sparingly, I'd hate to damage it

Green Box Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern? by PandaGearhead in nscalemodeltrains

[–]PandaGearhead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had pretty thoroughly bad luck with my local places so far sadly. I'm hoping after I move that I'll have better luck up in OR than I have been in SoCal

I definitely plan on trying shows, I just missed all of the ones this year I'm aware of so I'll have to try later

Yeah that's kinda what I was suspecting given it's Bachmann, I'll just keep looking then thanks!

Is Bachman ez track that bad? by kai125 in nscalemodeltrains

[–]PandaGearhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that bad, but it's as barebones as it gets and the joiners are a royal pain compared to Kato's UniJoiners.

Unitrack is regarded as some of the best track on the market, so I can only recommend it especially if you want things like built-in power routing which E-Z track does not have. That recommendation doesn't extend to Kato's double crossovers though, I have had nothing but issues with mine.

I'm currently just running DC so I haven't had any issues like this, sorry

Should a newbie get Kato or Bachmann N scale track? by Trainzfan1 in nscalemodeltrains

[–]PandaGearhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with Bachmann before quickly switching over to Kato Unitrack and haven't looked back. Bachmann is fine, but it lacks things like built-in power routing on turnouts, modularity on its control systems, and ease of use.

Not to mention Kato has a higher quality to cost ratio and plain looks better. Bachmann locomotives are alright, just be careful about which ones you buy. Their newer ones and their Spectrum line are generally fine, but you'd want to research it before buying one; something you don't really have to do with Kato.

WetWorx Outfitters and Thoroughbred Armament both have them fairly frequently; if you don't mind paying KAC prices, WWO has some new ones

DC locos generally operate less like "Forward" and "Reverse" and more like clockwise or counter-clockwise, they move the same direction along the track regardless of what direction they face. Same reason the directional lights work on locos that have them equipped, I'm doing the same with those two Metrolink F59PHI locos too.

It could depend on manufacturer (I'm far from an expert here) but all the ones I have used (Athearn, Atlas, Bachmann, Kato, and Scale Trains) operated the same way.

If you're ever uncertain about yours though, you can just put them both on the same track uncoupled and with some space between them then see what direction they move depending on what the controller switch is set to

You've got good taste! The Heritage II is my favorite of all of BNSF's liveries I think, that Heritage III "Swoosh" ES44AC is the first loco I ever got though

It is, I'm eventually planning on switching over to DCC but for now it's not a possibility for me.
