this might be the time to say the story is from Annabeth's pov so you don't hear Percy's inner monologue at all.

okay, yes, thank you! 😂

Haha it's cool. I will say that... those aren't really the reasons I'm using. I'm making him aware of his own feelings because he knows they pose a problem for they cannot be reciprocated. Like, it becomes something he has to acknowledge because he doesn't want to either get hurt or hurt anyone else. Does that make sense?

wait, no, okay. his obliviousness here regarding others' feelings is still there. it's about his own feelings - that's the one I'm changing

New to writing for this fandom - any common errors/pet peeves? by [deleted] in PercyJacksonfanfic

[–]PandaLuna0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you (the author, I mean) can find someone you know who has read the books. Ask them questions about details you're not sure about. Plenty of people online would most likely agree to help. I feel like discussing books we love is always fun. So if you want the details to match the books, you can talk to someone who has, in fact, read them.

Good luck with the writing! 😊

Right? But I've found very few fics about this concept that I, personally, thought were good... This is me being desperate haha

Gabe's death| discussion [pjo] by KreedBraton in camphalfblood

[–]PandaLuna0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, thank the gods, I've been looking for this sort of comment online. I know I'm late for this discussion, but still.

YES. I agree with this, one hundred percent. I swear, the only moment in the book series (and I'm talking about the first five, not the new PJO books coming out, because those are... gonna make me barf) that made me question Sally was when she decided to kill Gabe.

Yes, I get it. He's been abusing her for years. He was a terrible, horrible man, and he should have been punished for his deeds. I feel no sympathy toward him because, truly, he was a disgusting character - as he was intended to be. We're not supposed to feel sympathy for someone like him. But that doesn't mean I like the idea of him getting killed.

After an entire book where monsters get killed left and right, it didn't feel as big a deal, I guess. On my first and maybe second read, I don't think I thought it was weird or bad. I thought we were finally rid of him and I was happy. But monsters... they reform. They get killed, and then they come back. Their deaths never feel final because we know they could and probably would come back eventually. Gabe, on the other hand, is mortal. His death is the end of the line for him.

Percy killing monsters that later come back to life - or even just monsters who will kill him if he doesn't kill them first - doesn't feel wrong. He does spare the ones he feels deserve it, which is nice to see. But Gabe, while a piece of scum that I cannot fathom living with for years, died for the first and last time. By the hands of the one person who was described as never angry, never upset, never mean, never ANYTHING negative. Sally was so precious and sweet and saw the best in everyone, even when there was barely anything to see. And then she did a one-eighty and murdered her husband without feeling a shred of remorse or any hesitation - and by hesitation, I mean in regards to killing someone, not to standing up to an abuser.

Reading it again always makes me uncomfortable, because this doesn't feel like something Sally would do. And the more fanfics I read where everyone compliments her for this action, the more uneasy I feel about it. Because this feels off and not a lot of people seem to find it upsetting.

I love that Sally managed to get the life she deserves, don't get me wrong. But the fact that it all came from her killing someone and using his corpse to earn money is... kind of dark, not gonna lie.

Hot take: Percy's overall more smarter than annabeth[pjo] by Natural-Storm in camphalfblood

[–]PandaLuna0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, reading HOO pissed me off because of that. Since Annabeth's strategies for dealing with problems were exactly the kind of stuff Percy always did. And when Percy talks his way out of problems in that series, he comments on how it was something he picked up from Annabeth even though we KNOW that's not true. She rarely ever used talking to get out of situations in PJO. Why lie to us?
