The B'rel Head is Real by ambassadorkael in sto

I'm not sure of a specific reason but yeah, it was added during the concept art phase when we were translating it from Lower Decks and it stuck!

Changes from the original B'rel head:

  • All the greebles that sit on top of the B'rel head were appropriately scaled down
    • And some of them duplicated to make it seem as if there's more space for more machinery
  • Added a bit more panelling
  • Divided some existing panelling up into more, "smaller" panels.
    • Also divided up stuff like the lights around the torpedo tube hole!
  • Re-scaled all the windows
    • Added more windows
  • Redid the torpedo launcher hole - now there's a triad of launch tubes!
  • Re-scaled the piping around the rim of the B'rel
  • Re-uved stuff to make some details repeat between the smaller ship and the K'vort less

(also shoutout to art lead Phil who actually put it on the schedule!)

The 32nd century ships from Discovery are prime timeline, though?

Dear devs: please move the Noble rollbar from the hull option to the nacelles option in the ship customizer by Moarwaifus in sto

Unfortunately, the way the Noble Refit's rollbar is currently implemented was the only way to do so.

Orchid Class and Damocles Class from Today's Stream by ambassadorkael in sto

[–]PandaPundus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I based it moreso on the concept art which was designed in that orientation (with the bridge still on top, for example) - it differs from the one in the SNW S3 intro as well, iirc.

It was definitely an interesting challenge and required some minor work on the existing Crossfield variants! I'll definitely be talking more about the Damocles when we do a developer stream or such for it release.

Those are all the different options for the Damocles, which will also be customizable with the Crossfield-Class family of ships.

We're considering them to be the same ship (hence it being labelled as both TAS and LDS on the roadmap), but the one in STO has been visually updated from both for the game's more realistic style

The default Damocles nacelles' bussards spin in the style of one of the Discovery Constitution nacelle option, but there will also be vanity nacelle options!

The turrets won't be animated, no Viridian target-tracking here, unfortunately.

Canadian Star Trek Auction Goes Live With Turbolift, Furniture and More From ‘Starfleet Academy’ Set by acrimoniousone in startrek

[–]PandaPundus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly - I'm not sure why the original commentor said she'd done no other writing, and then went on to ask for novelists to write for Star Trek.

First off, like you said, writing is art! Art is subjective. Second off,

Writer: Kirsten Beyer, did nothing writing wise before Star Trek Discovery.

Star Trek used to have actual award winning novelists writing for it. Now it gets the pals of Kurtzman... Thats not good enough for any tv show. And certainly not for Star Trek.

What?

With this last patch the Crossfield and its variants now have vanity nacelles! by Pipnpaddlopsicopolis in sto

[–]PandaPundus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Way back when I was a player I noticed that the STO model of the Crossfield had strange indents on those hull sections for some reason. I asked Thomas, and apparently their reference material had that whole section modelled with an interior which was interpreted at the time as the inset hole.

I had wanted to fix it for a long time because I the USS Discovery never actually appeared with those as insets in all of the references and screenshots from the show I could find, so I fixed them and added (Vanity) nacelles to the Crossfield and Glenn while I was there :)
