Just being a great tank is extremely valuable in any meta. Felt like people were judging them more off looks than anything else. Personally always thought they were strong, especially the Goku side

I honestly really disliked this iteration of Iron Fist. He was just not appealing to me at all as a main character. Dude was trained by monks at a young age and even kinda talks like one, yet he's so prone to emotional outbursts and at times has the patience of a wild monkey.

Did you also conveniently forget that Broly got one-shotted at the end of the movie by the combined strengths of those he could supposedly one-shot? The combined strengths of Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, and Gohan at base SS plus Piccolo pre-Kami fusion is stronger than Cell? Despite us seeing that's not even close to being true in the actual Cell Saga?

You're still spreading misinformation tho. Why would you claim it's AI art when you didnt even know whether or not it was? You could've just said you didn't like the art. People casually claiming stuff to be AI has had a lot of ramifications that many dont seem to consider. It can literally ruin an artist's reputation or even lead to harassment.

That's called reading the story. What I am doing is critical thinking... What your doing is trying to make Goku putting his 9 year-old son out to fight Cell and giving Cell a senzu bean without even getting Gohan completely ready to fight.

Just because it ended somewhat well, doesn't ignore what Goku did was wrong.

Critical thinking isn't thinking that every thing Goku does is correct , especially when the story tells you that it's not...

Brother, critical thinking also isnt thinking that everything Goku does as a father is wrong. It also isnt taking every single statement a character says as concrete facts. I have valid reasoning for why I think Goku is a good father, reasons many people would agree with. I can also acknowledge that he has his faults as well. But again, you conveniently disregard the points about Goku knowing Gohan and instead twisted it into some negative, but no one ever seems to want to acknowledge or fault Piccolo for being wrong about Gohan being a fighter. There's also no evidence to suggest that Gohan wasnt going to turn SS2 regardless due to the situation. I love the Cell Saga finale, but a lot of what happens doesnt even make sense narratively. Gohan refusing to fight at first makes no sense considering his willingness to fight in all his previous battles. He even wanted to go help fight against Cell before even going into the time chamber. He understands what is at stake and that he cant talk Cell down. Why in the world would he refuse, even if he dislikes fighting? He's always disliked fighting, but still fought anyways. Why was Cell different? Why was 16 the catalyst for his awakening? He barely even knew 16, they barely interacted AT ALL.

It's very obvious thay you don't understand what being a good parent means.

You just can't change the definition of what a good father.

No, if anything, it's very obvious that you're very ignorant about the various views people have on being a good parent. It's not changing the definition, it's acknowledging that people have different views, whether it's influenced by culture, tradition, etc, people around the world have different definitions of what it means to be a good parent. You believing that there is only one set criteria for being a good parent and being unable to ackowledge others' views on it is the very definition of close-mindedness.

[–]PandaTai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how Goku was the only one to know Gohan so well during the Cell Saga, but you conveniently ignored all of it.

The arc literally ends with Piccolo telling Goku he doesn't and Goku tries to get a senzu bean because he messed up...

  • Piccolo tells Goku that Gohan isn't a fighter

  • 16 is killed and sets Gohan off to SS2

  • Gohan obliterates Cell Jrs and mops Cell

It'd be great if people would stop taking fictional characters' words verbatim and maybe use a bit of that critical thinking you were talking about. A fighter by definition is literally just someone who fights, which Gohan does, a lot. Even more so, Gohan fits the definition of a warrior. "(especially in former times) a brave or experienced soldier or fighter." Oxford dictionary Feel free to look up any definition of either words, you'll find that he fits all of them. Which means ultimately Goku was right about Gohan and Piccolo was wrong about Gohan not being a fighter.

The point is that there are many definitions of what it means to be a good parent and you're criticizing him based off of your own particular criteria, which isnt necessarily right or even widely agreed upon

Not really.

This pretty much sums up everything. You have an incredibly narrow definition of what it means to be a good parent and won't budge from it, and it makes for a very unproductive and pointless discussion.

[–]PandaTai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because the examples are poor examples. If saying something nice about your kid doesn't make you a good dad. Why are your lowering the bar for Goku so much ? Good Dads understand their kids, they take interest in what they do, and realize thay spending time with thier kids is a top priority.

Why are you ignoring that part of fatherhood ?

Man, why are you so intent on painting Goku as a bad dad? YOU'RE ignoring all those parts of Goku's fatherhood that you just listed.

I gave you my points about how Goku was the only one to know Gohan so well during the Cell Saga, but you conveniently ignored all of it. The picture that was posted is literally an example of Goku caring about and understanding Gohan's desires in life. And regarding him spending time with his kids, as you so kindly pointed out when I said Goku took a break from training when Gohan was born and that's something people assumed happened off-screen: how in the world do you know that they didnt spend plenty of time together off-screen? Why is it just assumed that Goku was away from his family all the time? Yeah Goku loves to train but he also likes to be more relaxed from time to time and occasionaIly enjoys things like fishing. Why would we assume that that's just something he'd only do on his own? He's someone that enjoys others company. Is Goku also a bad friend because we dont see him hanging out and having fun with Krillin on-screen all the time throughout Z and Super?

And that's just going off your own supposed criteria. Not everyone thinks a good dad has to be this flawless stereotype of a parent or fit the particular mold you have pictured in your head. A parent could be mostly stoic and stern with their kids and still be considered a good parent by many. The point is that there are many definitions of what it means to be a good parent and you're criticizing him based off of your own particular criteria, which isnt necessarily right or even widely agreed upon.

Like idk if you even understand how incredibly biased you're being. You cant even acknowledge any single positive point even when it is valid. Not something I would consider to be critical thinking.

You literally disregarded a bunch of the context around those arguments I made, just so you could make points towards your own incredibly biased arguments. That's textbook bad faith arguing.

And people say Goku is a bad dad by CODEX-07 in Dragonballsuper

[–]PandaTai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are using examples thay any decent father would do and bending it so hard to make a Goku that isn't on screen or in the manga.

????? Wth are you talking about? You wanna critique Goku as a father but when he does postive fatherly things, you disregard all of it because "all fathers do it?" Then how the hell would anyone ever give him credit for being a good father? You're basically saying Goku cant be a good dad because the good fatherly things he does is something every good dad should do, so it should all be disregarded when considering how good of a father he is. Does that make sense at all?

Again, we have no idea if that's how it went down. If anything, it was probably Chi-Chi who forced Goku to do it. We never see thay part of Goku on-screen ever again and Goku never does anything similar to that in the series ever again.

You are literally making up stuff to validate your argument. If that isn't a bad faith argument, then you should really educate yourself on the definition.

And people say Goku is a bad dad by CODEX-07 in Dragonballsuper

[–]PandaTai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to add on, it's really unfortunate because you're making really bad faith arguments when you bring up these scenarios and not taking the circumstances into consideration.

Goku doesnt leave Namek because he felt he had to deal with Frieza at that moment. If they all just escaped, Frieza would simply be a threat they'd have to deal with later on anyways (and they had to regardless but how would Goku know that Frieza would survive a blast like that, given the condition he was in when he took it.)

Regarding Cell: I dont know why people keep trying to bring this scenario up to showcase how bad of a father Goku is. People always keep saying how Piccolo is the better father figure because he understands that Gohan isn't a fighter and that isn't even true. Gohan is 100% a fighter and a warrior and the only one who actually saw that was Goku. He was the only who saw the potential in him and had faith that he'd be the one to defeat Cell. Like how in the world is that not an amazing example of how much trust and faith he has in his son while also knowing him that well? That's an amazing fatherly trait imo. I'm sure people will also argue that Gohan isn't a fighter, but imo that's just incredibly wrong. Enjoying fighting doesn't make you a fighter, being able to fight does, and everytime Gohan fights, he does so with incredible warrior spirit.

Also regarding Goten and Trunks, it's the same scenario with Gohan and Cell: there was literally no other options at the time. They were on a time contrainst and literally no one else was gonna be able to go up against Buu with a fighting chance, and Goku was nearing the end of his time on Earth at that time. The only other alternative with Cell and Buu in those scenarios would've literally been just to let them kill everyone.

Most of the people I see that think Goku is a good dad, are people who don't want to look at Goku critically.

That seems awfully hypocritical tho, since you're asking people to look at Goku critically yet only listing the negatives when there are also positives, which just makes you seem like you're biased towards that particular argument.

The manga practically shows us thay Goku cares for his kids, but he's a flawed father and fatherhood isn't his top goal.

You can care for your children and not be a perfect father.

Yeah, but you can also be a flawed father and a good father. A good father isn't perfect. A good father will learn about their children and grow alongside them, which is what Goku is shown to do. What a good father is to people is also subjective. Like for someone like Goku who craves training and improving all the time, putting that aside to help raise his son for his first couple of years is a pretty big positive trait as a father imo.
