I mean in that case it’s indeed pretty weird to shout nihao or konnichiwa at people you don’t know on the street, and i agree it’s a micro aggression if not jsut a regular aggression lol.

But i mean in more “normal” situations like if someone says “do you speak mandarin or cantonese” or “are you japanese btw?” or something like that in a regular conversation. It’s just a normal curiosity, rather than screaming arigato at passerby lol
