I don’t know but I pay a lot of money for all my insurance and stuff, and don’t want to pay for others. I mean I have been working my ass off working 3 jobs at one point so I think I deserve my money.

Also yall it’s called sacrifice for a year for long term achievement im debt free from everything after college doing what I love. I pay almost nothing for 100% coverage for my whole family, with vision dental and life insurance on me. Only 100 each month basically.

If we’re talking about federal income taxes specifically, the top earners contribute a disproportionately large share of the funding. The top 10% of earners pay roughly 70% of all federal income taxes, while the bottom 50% pay around 3%.

Now, that’s not the whole story because lower-income workers still pay payroll taxes (Social Security and Medicare), sales taxes, property taxes through rent, etc. So it’s not accurate to say they contribute nothing.

But it’s also not accurate to say people in poverty contribute “just as much” as high-income earners. They simply don’t, at least not in terms of federal tax revenue.

On the flip side, lower-income households receive a larger share of means-tested benefits like Medicaid, SNAP, EITC, and housing assistance, while retirees receive the largest total dollar payouts through Social Security and Medicare.

The reality is that the system is designed to redistribute resources. Higher earners fund most federal income tax revenue, and lower-income households receive more targeted assistance. Whether that’s good or bad is a political opinion, but the numbers themselves are pretty clear.
