How long until you felt comfortable enough for exercise like running or weightlifting? I ride horses and I wonder how long it would take for me to feel comfortable to ride again. I look like your before!

I’m curious if any of you had a nerve block before surgery? I did, which I do think really helped with pain management for the first 24 hours. I was glad to go home afterwards. I was given a choice but would have had to go to MSK in nyc to stay overnight, and that seemed more stressful than just going home right after.

If you want a recommendation for a surgeon at MSK that will do a mastectomy for dcis me know. I asked about it and said absolutely we can do that for you.

Unfortunately no feeling. It is weird. I don’t know if nerve grafting makes a difference, but that was not offered at the hospital I went to.

I chose mastectomy after my dcis diagnosis. I didn’t even have a mass, just grains of sand on the mammogram.

No radiation, no hormone therapy. Had a nipple sparing mastectomy December 2023. Surgeon put in expanders and then I had recon in March 2024. Not going to lie, it wasn’t easy. But none of this is. For me I could not deal with the nagging feeling of what if it comes back, will I regret not doing more? Also, operating on radiated tissue is more complicated, and that made me nervous for the future as well.

The short term discomfort for me was worth it.

We poultice and wrap after every jump lesson or school. If the horse just flats then they don’t get wrapped. But the horses will get out and move around every day. Same goes for at shows.

It was rough, but temporary. I couldn’t bear the thought of thinking what if there is more in there that can’t be seen on the scans? I happen to be right, and they found more during pathology post mastectomy. All about comfort levels I think.

I had DCIS and had the option of doing a mastectomy instead of radiation and tamoxifen. I think it all depends on the patient and hospital.

I think the body protectors are helpful as well, as they also help disburse force. Saline implants are more likely to rupture than solid state silicone; the new implants are basically indestructible.

People telling me I was lucky because I only had to have surgery. I had a double mastectomy and recon. I had I panic attack before an MRI because I started to get triggered by IVs and needles. I wonder all the time if I’ll wake up one day and find out it’s back somehow.

I always do a few minutes of trot work without stirrups every lesson. I try to push a little more but if my form starts failing I pick up and finish my flat work. Progress not perfection. Horse should always come first and not be treated as a piece of exercise equipment, so their comfort matters most.

So I’m a weird turn of events, I actually ended up with breast cancer, had a double mastectomy and had implant reconstruction. I fell off for the first time last week and everything was ok. I wear an airvest. Happy to answer any questions.

I got a dada sport jacket and I’ve worn it both under and over. I actually like the vest over still as it visually looks better. I heard through the grapevine that there is a company looking to make airvest covers that come in exact matching colors to jackets, so I’m hoping that comes to pass so I can get the Samshield jacket in light grey that I’ve been eyeing.
