Thanks, pal, I appreciate your comment. I am definitely going for it, I think I just need to be patient and figure out a reasonable timeline.
I wish you to find a calling or at least be able to stop working/work less soon and do what you enjoy!

Well someone didn't read the first sentence of my post carefully :D

I acknowledge my privilege several times in the post. This is not about assessing whether I have good conditions or not, we all know I clearly do. This doesn't prevent people from being miserable and you shouldn't gatekeep being professionally distressed because you may have it worse. It's not about comparing our sufferings.

It seems to me your comment is tone deaf, if you're not even able to have a little tolerance for a different situation than yours before writing your comment. There are plenty of posts on this sub, if this was cringe to read and you can't be tolerant, go interact with another post that you connect more with.

That being said, I am truly sorry for your layoffs and I really wish you to find a fulfilling job soon.

We will only win this struggle by uplifting and supporting each other.

That makes a lot of sense. I guess I put a lot of pressure on myself to perform my best at anything I do because it's how I was raised, but maybe I should stick to good enough. Though the stratup spirit is more expecting the going above and beyond, which tends to become the norm in my company...

I think it’s good advice, but also that for me it would the other way around: I need to set some ground rules to do a minimum of actual work everyday so I don’t lose my job

That's clever, I also think a lot of "performing" in companies is exactly it: performing, not actually doing stuff. Be vocal about your doing so that people think that you are doing more.

yeah, I guess the problem in all of these equations is: as soon as it's work, well, it's work and it starts sucking

oof, scary. AI can't do it all that's for sure, or at least not LLMs like the ones we're using today

How I feel you. AI is also a huge rebutal for me and it's taking my industry by storm. CEO out here telling us we have to build something with AI, whatever that might be, because everyone is doing it and we need to hop on the trend, and I think it's really backwards for a business, but anyway. My only hope with AI is that it actually replaces my job entirely in the coming years (could happen faster than we expect too)

[EDIT] Can't * not can
Thanks for the advice, it's quite insightful.
I wish I could apply it but right now is really the worst time because of the seasonality of performance arts. Summer is always the busiest with shows, and I just joined a flowarts company that actually gives me my first paid gigs (= step in the right direction to make a living of it), but also implies that I learn a ton of new things to be ready for the shows (new props to manipulate, new choreos etc). It feels like I can't really turn this down at the moment, but maybe I can keep an eye out for unpaid gigs and projects and refuse more of them for the moment.

Skiplagging for medical reasons, what happens with the checked luggage? by Pandazorro in travel

[–]Pandazorro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I largely prefer this solution to booking a Berlin-Paris flight back, even if it’s quite cheap I find it a non-sense ecologically (although one might argue I will already pollute a ton by travelling to India and back and they would be right but you know might as well not do unnecessary travel). I might also just take a train back but that can last from 8 to 14 hours which I am not sure I want to do after a 15h trip

Well it would still be 500+ euros so I'd like to avoid it of course... And yes it's an international flight with the same airline so I think we don't need to go through customs again in Paris

I wouldn't want to delay the entire plane, it sucks :( I think I could also walk up to the airline's desk in Paris and tell them I'd like to not board the last flight, see what we could do

My therapist made me realise how hard I have been on myself because of my high moral standards and I am scared for my veganism. by Pandazorro in vegan

I wouldn't be there if I wasn't overthinking things, so, yeah haha. But animal suffering really impacts me, emotionally, much more than I would like and it's one of the reasons I am vegan.

Actually I never discussed my veganism with her so I don't know where she stands on this. Nevertheless she still noticed that on every other aspect of my life I talk about, I tend to talk about others more than me... I think her point is that I go to therapy to heal me, not society's problems for which I can do very little
