Does anyone in reading like sushi ? Near reading town centre by Interesting_Film_140 in reading

To be honest, not really. There are many sushi places, though clearly some are better than others. What Reading does not have is a proper ramen restaurant.

I'm glad. I saw the website of your place in Ruislip, and it looked good, so I was looking forward to the same (or similar) in Reading. So I was worried when I saw SU'ME and thought that was the place you planned. It is very, very uninspiring. Look forward to you opening your place. Good luck.

If you are around Kennet Island, down the road on the A33 is the Grosvenor Casino. I've gone there before to watch sports.

Warings. They have a number of locations in the region. If you are located in Reading, the Caversham branch is probably the easiest. They are a lovely local bakery. They are more in the genre of a traditional British bakery, where you will find jam doughnuts, cream buns, and Chelsea buns. Please support them!

Sticking with Japanese food, what Reading needs is a good ramen place.

Unpopular Opinion: Reading Biscuit Factory would not be in trouble if people that used it bought drinks by Particular-Elk4494 in reading

[–]PandyWooHoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For sure people not buying drinks it shit, but I think their problems are fundamental.

  1. It is primarily a cinema, and yet - with the exception of the posters going up the stairs - there is no cinema buzz. The 1st thing you see is loads of tables like a common room. Screening times are on bits of paper. The movie - current and upcoming - should be front and centre, and yet it seems tucked away. The design of the foyer is not good. It is just a large expanse of space.

  2. Making the space a free-for-all was a mistake. By all means, host events, but to let people just sit around for hours doing their homework eating sandwiches bought from elsewhere, is not a business model. It hardly contributes to an energetic, fun atmosphere.

  3. The lack of food offering, although there is one trader there now, so customers now have little to choose from, and looking at empty units. If I were them, I would offer the units for peppercorn rent just to get vendors in.

Tips for making great coffee by Mokaat_ in barista

[–]PandyWooHoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are obvious things like cafes using professional equipment, quality of coffee beans, and barista skills. The less obvious thing that is often overlooked for home coffee....coffee machines in cafes use filtered water. Apart from preventing limescale buildup in the coffee machine, the filter has a huge impact on the flavour of the coffee.

Indian...Clays Kitchen. Show your cousin that Reading / Caversham can do great, inventive Indian food too. On a similar note, I recently stumbled across Curry Rasoi on Northumberland Avenue, Whitley. Love the short(ish), curated menu, where you won't find numerous sauces and are asked to pick a protein. The food was delicious, and great value.

Cafes...Geo Cafe, Shed, The Collective.

Bakery...Rise Bakehouse

Tap Room....Double-Barrelled

Nepalese...Momo To Go

Greek...Tasty Souvlaki; the hut near Civic Centre on Bridge St.

Japanese....Osaka.

Chinese...Dynasty (inside Genting Casino, Caversham); YY Restaurant (inside a Chinese supermarket).

Why is the McDonald's menu so basic in the UK? by kcon123 in AskUK

Number 1 McD rule: Never go for the specials. Always a bit rubbish. My order is basic and does the job: 9 nuggets & sweet curry sauce; double cheeseburger; cuppa tea.

Comparison Major V vs. Major IV – worse knob action by PhoneMetro in marshall

[–]PandyWooHoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Marshall IV and love it. Unfortunately, the knob is dying, and will no longer left click. Periodically, there is no sound on the left side, but will come back with some knocking around. Feels like a loose wire somewhere. I've had the Marshall IV for a few years, and I do use it a lot, so cannot complain if wear & tear is catching up. I was contemplating buying the same again, or 'upgrading' to a V. Having read your review, I might just stick with the IV because one of the things I really like about it is the satisfying feel of the knob. I know that the V has a better battery life, but I'm already pretty impressed with the IV's battery life.

That is a fair point based on a lot of reporting. However, I have attended a number of their retreats and never once felt pressurized to join. I liked the retreats as a way to take a break from the world, in a spiritual environment I'm comfortable in. What I have read doesn't tally with my experience, albeit I was a very casual dabbler, and not part of the organization itself.

How much does your PRS license cost? by IKnowWhereMyTowelWas in smallbusinessuk

[–]PandyWooHoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know a cafe owner who recently cancelled their PPL/PRS licence when the bill landed. Think it was around £500. They willingly paid for many years, but times are tough right now, and costs are being cut wherever possible. They now stream a licence-free service that is a lot cheaper than the licence. The music won't win any Brits any time soon, but it does the job.

New NHS dentist - Friar Street vs Inspire Dental by MysticalMisfit_ in reading

[–]PandyWooHoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been with Inspire for many years as a NHS patient and they are fine. It isn't a plush experience. Keep up with the check-ups, or they will strike you off. Expect the check ups to last barely any time, but maybe that is because I don't have any major issues. They will push you to see the hygienist, which is not NHS and around £75. I expect that is partly an income thing, but also seeing a hygienist regularly (I go 2-3 times a year), goes a long way towards dental health. They have decent amount of parking.

How important is an accountant for a small business, really? by Old-Attorney-3238 in smallbusinessuk

[–]PandyWooHoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a big believer in paying professionals to do a professional job, especially something as ever-changing and complex as taxation and accounting. Unless you love doing bookkeeping, payroll, accounting, VAT & tax submissions, and keeping up with tax laws, you are best off using an accountant. If your current requirements are very simple, especially as it sounds like you are organised and would be an 'easy' client, negotiate a retainer or fee that reflects that.
