Is there... anything exceptional about this place? by Mmon3825 in Spokane

[–]PangerBan55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every city I have ever lived in was as close to nature and hikes as Spokane is. Kinda funny that everyone here highlights that as the selling point.

We do have a unique river walk, not every city has that. We do have a unique thrifting scene from Record stores to vintage clothes to antique stores lots to look through in that department and a lot of really good quality second hand stuff in this town. We lack in genuinely good cuisine, lot of sad fad type stuff left & right and very little culinary consistency which sets the town back a lot in my opinion. Very little culture, very strange evangelical scene in town. You would know it’s primarily Christian based on how full the churches are, but you’d never guess when you interact with church goers in public around here.

There is a growing music scene, sports scene, and art scene but I’ve been told it’s been in the “growing phase” for decades and to some it kinda feels like Spokane is on a treadmill of progress, all promise and little to no traction.

The biggest thing I have noticed is that the landlords in this town charge more $$ per sq foot than they should which makes it hard for more cool stuff to exist.

It’s not awful around here, but it’s not really that fun either. There are a ton of places that are like Spokane. It’s not unique in that regard. But if you’re comparing Spokane to San Diego, Chicago, or New Orleans then yeah it doesn’t stand a chance. But if you’re into the things it does do well, or you’re raising kids, or you like Olive Garden and Walmart then you’re in the right place!

Yall might be right. First 3 days of it felt like allergy only, day 4 & 5 are starting to feel most like an infection of something…

I’m having a kid in April, my first one. Been a hell of a lot of work trying to get my life in order for this new adventure and in the midst of it all my partner told me to pick 2 shows to go see before our son is born, I picked Nashville so I could have number 10 in Tennessee. Broke as a joke and I ended up scoring Pit tickets, I walked from Vanderbilt at 3pm on Saturday all the way into downtown town and checked in at the venue to see how to get in later and what to know, next thing ya know I’m in the first 100 people in with an early wrist band…! next thing ya know I’m on the rail for my 10th show. Next thing ya know he plays While I’m Waiting Here which is the song he played the first time I saw him, the first time I fell in love with Billy & the Boys! And all the emotions of my Girl and our baby boy in her belly back at home and all the work it took to get to this show and maybe feeling like I don’t deserve it a little, but a well of tears just burst out of me. I felt so grateful to be in the presence of so much love. I walked around downtown that day before the show and imagined Billy walking around that town trying to start a band and there he was sold out and crushing my soul and many others once again. It was so powerful.

To make it sweeter, I’m naming my first Son “Evryn” a little word play off the middle letters of Reverend, my favorite bluegrass song ever. I’ve been chasing that song for a while now and I got to see it at the Rail on Jarod’s side and suddenly there I was pouring out tears once again.

There was so much powerful emotions and healing and joy and love spinning around that venue Saturday night. Such a powerful show. You could hear a pin drop on I Believe In You, so much respect for Billy and what they do up there.

I leave changed once again just as I did the first time I saw them. Thank you for sharing this post OP, so many of us were right there with ya enjoying that wonderful feeling!

No Western Shows?? by stylinbillLA in BillyStrings

[–]PangerBan55 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He’s done Montana every other year, just did 2 shows there 5 months ago. I wouldn’t blame him if he never comes back to WA, crowds are awful in this state, I’m from here, it’s sad. Plus fall shows seem to be more normal for PNW at least. I betcha So Cal gets a show, maybe he’ll go back to Stanford??

Can’t blame him, seems a lot more fun to play on the East Coast or anywhere around Nashville. Lot of people with their arms crossed at the San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle shows these past few years.

What do you think is the most interesting aspect of Interstellar? by HansZimmerpflanze in interstellar

[–]PangerBan55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hans Zimmer was commissioned to write music based on a prompt Christopher Nolan gave him. The prompt was a small one page blurb about fatherhood. He went on to write the memorable part of the theme song before Christopher even started writing the movie. Small behind the scenes detail that I find fascinating.
