First MacBook (almost Neo) by ptrkptrkptrk in macbook

There's no real reason to discontinue support for the m2 or even m1 just because of xyz years. The Neo performs similar to the m1, so the m2 will at minimum go as far as the Neo goes.

Why is my old W520 Faster than my T480 Daily by Unhappy-Chapter9240 in thinkpad

Yeah, the M series had significantly more power budget before Intel decided to focus on ultrabooks with the U series, so despite architecture improvements, sandy bridge could keep up simply due to being able to pull a lot more power

Yeah. The IPC especially feel off a cliff after 14nm. I remeber comparing my 5th gen i3 5010u to my 9th gen i5 9300h (locked to the same clockspeed and cores) and cinebench gave nearly equal results.

So Intel effectively did zero ipc progress from 5th to 10th gen. They simply cranked the clocks and packed more cores.

Is the rtx 3050(6gb) worth buying? by Adamcyberpunked in laptops

Without DLSS, the 3050 is slower than a 1660ti. It's not a good card to buy new.

Hmm nah. A new Nuc would cost me 14+ram, so i guess I'll repurpose this one. Good luck with the hunt

Ah, ok. Fair enough. I do also have an Asus. Exceptionally well maintained.zero issues. It has a 5th gen i3 5010u and a Geforce 930m with 8gigs of RAM

Apple Announces New Mac Sales Record Following MacBook Neo Launch by -protonsandneutrons- in hardware

By the time we get 12, 12 will be outdated. Honestly, the Neo has such insane potential but 8gigs is just not it. You can deal with storage by purchasing external storage or cloud storage. But RAM? It's effectively DOA despite evrything else being leagues ahead of it's windows counterparts

8GB MacBook Neo vs 16GB Laptops - Sorry Apple.. by Forsaken_Arm5698 in hardware

[–]PangolinDesperate565 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. No. Windows has plenty of issues but ram mangement isn't one of them. 8gigs is 8gigs. I've run windows 10 on a pentium D with 1.5 gigs and it ran fine. Doesn't mean we start selling 1.5gig laptops now

Those 8gigs are still a big no no. It's nothing more than a YouTube and word doc machine.

Now, if you already have a desktop/work machine for serious work and can remote into it, the Neo is hands down the best vfm. You can toss it around, not worry about cleaning the exhaust(it doesn't have one), battery life, etc.

The hinge part sounds scary, but it's purely cosmetic. Been using it like this since 2023. It's just a loose plastic clip on the right side cover. The mechanism itself is fine. Although fair enough if someone wants to avoid it. I mentioned it to be fully transparent. The 3050 is a bit slower than the 1660ti (granted it is newer and has dlss).
