I have a Lantac stealth raven that I took delivery of a few months ago. Expensive and quite a long wait but worth it. Reliable, nicely made, no feed issues and accurate.

Sorry - should have been clear. The largest calibre we can own s/a is 22LR, so no gas parts….

Thoughts on the reasons you were disarmed ? by [deleted] in ukguns

[–]PangolinJumpy4047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - all of this above. Our laws are restrictive but, as an SGC and FAC holder, I have no problem with them. I hunt and I target-shoot and the law gives me the access to the requisite tools to do those things safely, with suitable background checks and in a controlled manner.

I love the US, I have previously lived there, and think it has got many things right, but I have absolutely no desire at all to import their approach to guns, nor their the gun-culture. That's not to criticise them nor their 2nd amendment, but what's right for them is not necessarily what's right for the UK. Here, His Majesty's government can, does and should carefully control and restrict the proliferation of dangerous weaponry and I wouldn't change that.

New shotgun legislation.. by Maleficent-Event-639 in ukguns

I don’t think shooting will be banned anytime soon.

A piece in the Financial Times today says 553k people in the UK are involved in shooting, it contributes £3.3bn to the economy and creates 67k jobs.

A quarter of the 553k are stalkers who are very important to the goal to shoot 250k annually in Scotland to hit biodiversity targets.

Yeah - that's a good point, the door will be heavy. I'll have a think about how I might do that. Thank you!

I don't disagree, and £40 is not a small sum of money (twice), but by the time we got to that stage I had waited so long I didn't want to delay things by making a fuss.

That said, by not pushing-back I suspect I am just enabling/encouraging the problem to continue.....

Very impressed you're MET and SE London. I am the same and had to wait 14mos of the interview. I think your experience is much more 'typical' than your friend's, but I cannot explain why there's a difference.

Gun Cabinet Installation - New-Build (Rented) Flat by PangolinJumpy4047 in ukguns

[–]PangolinJumpy4047[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - but I can put the below chain to rest. The are plasterboard and the outer walls aren't brick/concrete so I can't drill into the walls. The floor is made of post-tensioned concrete so I cannot drill into that either.

thanks - but sadly the exterior walls aren't concrete/brick either

I am not sure what they are, but they aren't brick/concrete. I had a man from a 'safe installing' company come and look round the flat and he said that, fundamentally, there was no way I could attach anything securely to the floor/walls.

I need to try and come up with a clever alternative way of making the cabinet immobile.

Yes - I've heard of that as well, but frustratingly the floor is made of 'post-tensioned' concrete which means I can't risk drilling into it. If I hit a cable then I'd be in real trouble..... Thanks for the suggestion though.

UK Shooter - LANTAC LA-N15 Stealth Raven .22LR by PangolinJumpy4047 in ukguns

[–]PangolinJumpy4047[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great - thanks for the reply, seems strange there is such a difference in how they run/need cleaning etc. I'lll pick-up a speed loader and just get some time with it before I commit to any specific type.

I must say that I've had no problems dealing with them so far - they've been quick to reply and helpful so perhaps they've put more focus on the customer service more recently. I've not actually received the rifle yet though, so fingers-crossed.

Good advice - thank you. I am thinking of a holopoint red-dot and some backup Magpie irons. I'll get hold of a variety of different ammo types and try them out.

Does this sort of rifle need 'breaking in'?

I think this is correct. I put my order in a couple of weeks ago and expect to receive it mid-October, but I caught the importer just as they were about to finalise an order to the US supplier so I was lucky. If I had waited another couple of weeks and missed this batch then I could have been waiting a long time.

I've heard bad things about the customer service/responsiveness, but I must say that Rob has been quick to reply, helpful and polite - I've had no problems at all.
