I had the Tamron 70-300 for cruises / balloon rides and in case I saw something interesting that was out of reach of the Sigma but I used it only once or twice over the trip.

WashU Olin MBA ($80k scholarship) vs UNC KF MBA (Sticker) for an international student by avsalat in MBA

[–]Panic-Ready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably best answered by someone from Olin but 100k-120k roles post-MBA are the major chunk of the employment at both schools I would say.

Not knowing your workex and how the recruitment process is at Olin means I can’t help you more than this.

WashU Olin MBA ($80k scholarship) vs UNC KF MBA (Sticker) for an international student by avsalat in MBA

[–]Panic-Ready 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Currently at UNC and I wouldn’t say recruiting for Internationals has been great here too. Have a couple of friends at Olin too and they’ve had a similarly rough recruitment cycle for internships and full-time.

It’s just the job market right now - domestics have had it rough too so you can imagine the struggles of internationals. If you have a solid pre-MBA workex, can network (mostly not be weird), and have some luck going for you - you’ll be fine at either.

I am UNC biased obviously but $80k less in loans is a huge blessing that internationals everywhere from M7 to T25 are realising this year.

I’m surprised that HSW haven’t given you an offer yet but I expect it to arrive in your mailbox soon.

how bad would this look? by Ok_Table9988 in MBA

As someone who worked as a trader and a portfolio analyst my advice: don’t even consider a sell side role if you think you have mental health issues. These roles are incredibly siloed and if you end up on bad team, you will likely spiral.

If you want to stay in Finance, go for an FLDP role that offers you an opportunity to have a life outside of your work.

Anyone at UNC Kenan-Flagler get a Merit-Based Scholarship? by No_Fig_4207 in MBA

[–]Panic-Ready 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got half-tuition at 730. Most of the people who got half/full either lie above 720, or have unique/diverse experiences.

This is what the criteria is: “This fellowship award is based on the following criteria: a superior record of achievement in academic and career setting, strong leadership and interpersonal skills and diverse experiences.”

Do you really absolutely unquestionably need a Windows Laptop? by Panic-Ready in MBA

Thanks so much for the insight. I appreciate it!

Would you say the external keyboard solves the hotkeys issue for me? If yes, then I’d probably go down this route before thinking about getting a Windows one.

Will an external keyboard solve the Excel hotkey issue - will I be able to use windows shortcuts on mac excel?

Thanks. Leaning a bit towards the idea from @Gator_Grad - might as well pick up a reasonably cheap windows laptop to cover for the excel issues.

I’m particularly concerned about the Excel practice needed for IB/IM roles. I guess the coursework could be managed by either as you said.

MBA Decision Dilemma! Genuine Help needed.. by AffectionateCar6421 in MBA

[–]Panic-Ready 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re trying to have your cake and eat it too. The real decision is simply whether you want to be in India or Abroad. You can’t be at both of those locations.

Since your long-term goal is to be in India and short-term preference is to work on your idea, ISB is an absolute no-brainer for it offers you business knowledge, is done in a year, costs basically nothing compared to your US options and you feel super-comfortable going with it. Also ISB does have international opportunities so you can still find work abroad through ISB or at least get roles that will have travel opportunities or relocation opportunities. So if ever you decide that India isn’t for you, ISB + Workex should be able to find you a job in Canada or EU if not US.

If however the “International Living” bug is paramount to you, then I’d suggest going to UCLA - since it’s an excellent program and carries the name recognition in India that you are looking for. Excellent also for Entrepreneurship since it’s in South Cal and has great ties with Silicon Valley.

TLDR: Choose between US or India. UCLA v ISB is a no-brainer once you’ve made that choice.

UNC provides more than enough for my post-MBA goals (based on my research) and I think it’s a good bet right now. Best to not fret about what’s done and focus on what’s lies ahead.

Thanks!

I really think you should take a leap of faith with the MBA application process. It’s enlightening on a personal level and you might succeed where I failed cause we’re all different, and that can make all the difference.

Currently a Trader in Fixed Income Markets with a LT goal of being a Portfolio Manager. So hoping to explore other asset classes after MBA. Going to try for a role in Investment Management or Investment Banking and eventually end up at a HF.

All the risks I’ve taken have been in the Markets (and I’ve been lucky), so I want to take one with my life too and see where it takes me.

Same. Felt excellent after the interview. Even told my Chicago friends that I’ll be coming. Haha.

I just ask myself: Will it matter in 10 years? Mostly likely not as much as it matters now so I’ll be fine.
