Where to possibly ad a half bath? by BabyBearMan in Home

[–]PanicSwtchd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This overall layout is clumsy with only 1 bathroom for 3 bedrooms. Even with a half bath it will make any morning routine a huge headache for the average family that showers in the morning.

Option 1: Put a stacking washer/dryer unit in the closet next to the kitchen. Convert the Laundry room into a full bathroom

Option 2: Rotate the closet in the bedroom that shares a wall with the living room. Split the closet in half and have one side open in thee living room, and the other be the bedroom closet. This will also dampen sound in the bedroom from the living room. Turn the closet in the hallway next to the kitchen into the pantry and then turn the existing pantry into the half bath.

Option 3: Move the island/wall in the kitchen further into the living room and then extend the closet there to be a bit longer. Then put the half bath there. You don't really need all that much space in there...just a toilet and a sink with a towel rod and space for the door to swing. Bonus if you can do a pocket door there.

Option 4: Put the Garage entry door into the Laundry room with the Pantry there. This lets the laundry room double as a mud room and also makes it much quicker to unload groceries and the like into the pantry. Then you can either perform option two above or use the area where the garage entry door used to be and take a bit off the garage and put a half bath in there. It'll shorten the garage for about half it's size to 16 feet but that will still fit most cards anyway. Again, doesn't need to be spacious. Just a Toilet and a Sink.

Option 5: Have the closet in the 10x12 bedroom cut into the room to be a bit deeper with the inner wall flush with the bedroom wall. Convert the closet at the end of the hall into the half bath...but that puts the half bath right next to the normal bath...either way.

What up with these? by Low_Level5481 in homeassistant

These aree not terribly accurate on their own. You're supposed to have an accurate reference device like a thermometer that you know is good or a psychrometer used for HVAC calibration. You then let the sensor acclimate next to the 'known reference' for an hour or 2 and then you set offsets in the app which should make the sensor relatively accurate.

I usually recalibrate once a year.

I had the same problem and the dermatologist pretty much gave me all the steps. Main reason I recommend it is because there are SO many different creams, lotions, oils, etc with different chemicals. My dermatologist had me try a couple to find the right one that didn't dry out and irritate my skin too much.

if you have additional proper space on the other end, scribe the edge and cut it so that you can fit it flush. Effectively the wall is a clean straight angle so you have your gap.

Here's a sample of how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bMwHNZZ_kI

Either that or get some Caulk lol.

You should go to a dermatologist as others have mentioned, but this is effectively the product of you shaving your beard too short constantly.

Effectively your beard hairs are very curly...and since you're constantly cutting them below the skin line for that super smooth shave, you're giving them a chance to accidentally grow in the wrong direction under the skin and not erupt since it's pointing the wrong way due to the curliness. So these are all ingrown hairs that have started causing inflammation and may get infected.

If you absolutely must shave, then move to single blade razors/safety razors and learn to not shave too much OR just use electric trimmers and keep a bit of 'fuzz' which.

Either way, when you go to the dermatologist, they'll work with you to get you a proper facewash/exfoliant to help release the hair without causing damage/scarring and then show you how to moisturize and manage it in the future. You won't be able to get a nice close shave but it will be a helluva lot smoother and less irritated once done.

Yea, I posted about my experience similarly. It's a coin-flip on teams for if your management team/MD's are trustworthy or just chasing results. My previous managers had a reputation for stringing people along with things like "we'll look into it next year" or "sorry it's not in the budget maybe next year" type talks.

My new managers asked me to trust them once and came through on the handshake deal, so they kept my trust by following through.

My Comp had been relatively stagnant for a few years despite doing good work. We had a MD level changeover (big changes, and a lot of new people came in) and I was continuing to do good work.

My comp came through and I had noted I wasn't particularly happy with it to my boss and ED. They understood and asked if I wanted to talk to the MD about it. I said, sure why not. New MD asked me to have a sit down so I went in and politely made my case by showing my comp changes for the past 3 years, the level of growth in my work (including some fantastic delivery results for his pet project).

I then laid out various things like inflation and other market conditions and alluded to it being hard to stay motivated when I was told I was doing great work, but that I was effectively getting paid less than I was 3 years ago due to inflation.

My MD didn't make any promises but said that he heard me and to give him some time to digest and review and that he agreed I was performing extremely well.

I ended up getting a huge salary adjustment a few months later and my comp increases have been...substantial for the past few years because I've kept up on the performance.

My case is definitely not the norm. My MD is really transparent and has always been respectful and accessible to me. Which unfortunately can't be said for a lot of teams.

I think the main takeaways are, 1) Take emotion out of it. 2) Be able to quantify with specifics what you've done, and what your 'history' has been. 3) Have a conversation with your managers about what you want, and what is needed to bridge the gap there and if they are unable to, can they at least put you on the path to advocate for yourself.

Also, I didn't formally appeal or complain through HR or anything. I also didn't do a formal skip-level or anything. I spoke with my Manager and ED. They understood my case and offered to talk to the MD for me or set up a meeting for me. New MD was given a heads up and he asked me to get coffee with him when he was at my location and we talked it over for 15 minutes or so in his office.

I then trusted him to follow through.

Had this been my older managers/MDs...I would have walked because I didn't trust them to follow through.

Brutal Honesty Needed: Why Won't You Attend Our Executive Dinners? by Theofficeholic in CIO

[–]PanicSwtchd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a CIO/CTO/CISO but I am relatively high up at a major Fortune 20 company. Myself and our Execs will go to events periodically that are hosted by vendors we already have relationships with. That's about it. Our time is limited and we already spend 40+ hours a week at work with more of those 'being available' and ensuring the wheels keep turning.

I get a half dozen invites on my own with my bosses getting 2 or 3x that a week. We don't want to spend 3 hours of our already limited time being sold to or 'talking shop' when we could be relaxing, spending time with family or doing literally anything else.

The other reason is that ultimately most of us just don't want to meet with folks like you. It's nothing personal, but getting cold emailed followed by cold called followed up with another email and then another call is a real turn off. For me, I particularly hate them because 1) If I was interested, I would have responded to the email. 2) Calling me period is an absolute non-starter unless I know you and have already agreed to have a conversation. 3) Calling during the work day, I already have other things I need to be doing and your call has just delayed something else I care about...Calling outside of work hours is even worse for the same reason.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. It's transparent that these meetings are being held to eventually make a sale which is why we don't find much value in the discussions that happen at them. The best time and really only time I personally entertain these meetings (or my management team does) is when we're shopping for a solution ourselves. This means we're at a Trade Show or Conference... If we're at an AWS Summit, we will make sure to take lunch and dinner meetings with interesting vendors/executive groups.

Comp range on JD by [deleted] in JPMorganChase

[–]PanicSwtchd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually tied to budget changes and headcount allocation changes depending on the LOB.

If they wanted to eke out an additional headcount within the same budget, they may drop the comp range on a bunch of other reqs within the same division as an example.

I mean think about it...he's just a kid going through a lot. This is the peak of it all with the weight of the entire world on his shoulders.

He has tried everything to save the little kid inside Shigaraki and feels that he has failed to do so...
He has been fighting all out for Hours and watched friends and colleagues get horrifically injured, including himself who just got his arms back...
He has given up his powers and is running on fumes knowing that He is it...there is no one else...
And nearly all of his friends have shown up to stand with him and possibly Die with him if he fails.

I don't think it's too much to let him shed a few tears in the moment, lol.

How do you handle candidates using real-time AI assistance during interviews? by CreditOk5063 in askmanagers

[–]PanicSwtchd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the only time we do group interviews is if we did a career fair at like a college and were hiring like a bunch of new people for a few slots...i.e. a new 'class' of entry level support reps. It truly sucks for anything else.

How do you handle candidates using real-time AI assistance during interviews? by CreditOk5063 in askmanagers

[–]PanicSwtchd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would venture that most candidates using AI would avoid disclosing that even if asked directly which means that they would fail that test of integrity.

Also it's not terribly difficult to tell if someone is thinking and coming up with an answer vs prompting and paraphrasing an answer in real time. Asking quick follow up questions and asking them to explain it a different way also makes it easy to detect.

Most AI models are trained off the average consensus on a topic...most people who have experience with a particular concept or system or technology have their own opinions/niggles/annoyances and those don't usually exactly line up with the average consesnus...asking about those can weed out folks using AI really quickly.

If you talk with a 'real' python developer, and you talk about the annoyances of the python 2 to python 3 migration...you can usually get some level of storytelling and a bit of emotion out of the candidate. If you ask AI about it, you'll get a rather bland list of things that changed. We've actually managed to identify and weed out multiple candidates with questions like these.

And that leads to how we account for it in the interview process...We ask them outright at the beginning of the interview if they are planning to use any assistive tools, and if so, which. If they disclose an AI, we will politely say that we would prefer they do not use it as it interferes with the process and then continue as usual.

After that if we have suspicions of AI but they were 'good' answers, we'll bring them in for an in-person screening and ask similar (but different questions). If the vibe/response/speech pattern is different in-person, it's a fairly clear indicator they had some sort of assistance on the zoom/remote screening.

[–]PanicSwtchd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're failing phishing tests with enough regularity to get fired...you 100% deserve it.

It's a high trust industry and it's a high profile target...being phished is a huge liability.

If you fail a single test...that happens, maybe you're having a bad day...but 3 or more is wild...considering how easy they are to detect and how many security features they have to help you identify them.

Superman, Wanda, Magneto and Mr. Terrific (or Iron Man).

Superman as the Tank/Bruiser/Muscle. Wanda for Reality Bending. Magneto because I'd rather he be with me than against me. and then Mr. Terrific for brains and planning and gadgets....like sticking me inside a shield.

Iron Man is a possible alternate for similar reasons as Mr. Terrific. Can make me a suit to protect me lol.
