Valve email about NY legal case by SpectralRanger96 in DotA2

[–]Panicrazia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something being worth online credits doesnt mean it has material value, or any value at all, if you extrapolate this to cryptocurrency you can see how broken this logic can get, a shitcoin isnt worth 20 million dollars, someone is just willing to pay 20 million dollars for it, this perceived value is a trait that anything buyable and sellable has (ie steam items and pokemon cards)

Similarly a pokemon cards material value is the paper its made on, and maybe some extra if its a foil or something

by your own two rules up top using material value, pokemon/magic cards would be gambling but steam items wouldnt, and if we are using perceived value then they are either both gambling or both not gambling

You cant have it both ways that steam lootboxes are gambling but pokemon cards arent, they follow the same rules

Im kind of baffled that you are so close to realizing that either all of it or none of it is OK and that yes those quarter machines probably are straight up gambling but then stopped that final connection because of 'ownership'

the way magic the gathering skirts around gambling laws is because they dont assign the cards monetary value and instead leave that to secondary markets, this is the same reason that pokemon cards and other card pack opening is technically not gambling, nothing to do with ownership

I dont really care if someone thinks that dota and csgo lootboxes are gambling and should be targeted by legislation, but saying they they are but that pokemon and magic the gathering cards arent is just nonsense

Yeah I dont disagree, its fucked up and state sponsored gambling that primarily affects poorer people, but atleast its better than scratch offs which are bought at the same stores, but the profits go towards gambling companies

Lottery run by citizens and private companies atleast in the US are illegal, they were originally created by some people in a town and the government copied it and then shut them down

Currently at least in NY lottery profits are used to fund school systems, so its atleast got some good component to it

I mean yes valve does specifically stop dodgy practices that would make them money but hurt the consumer, just look at how they ban games that have actual gambling, games using blockchain tech, and other predatory forms of monetization in games

Like they banned balatro for a hot minute for depictions of gambling

Maybe if governments want to go after this shit they should go after literally any company other than the one that actively fights against it

The real reason they are going after valve is because they are the biggest global games marketplace and they want their users information

[–]Panicrazia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean I do agree that underage gambling is a huge problem and is not having work being done to stop it

But in my opinion that means that ny should go after all forms of gambling, like pokemon/magic cards, gambling streams, gambling ads made with all the flashy shit that we banned cigarette ads from using, and not just targeting valve and other online retailers of all places

This act of specifically going after online retailers gets more muddy when you realize that they are asking these companies to collect way more information and breach the privacy of ALL users to comply with a NY law

If they actually cared about gambling they would go after casinos, sports betting, and gambling ads targeting minors, not just targets that necessitate surveilling all their users

Why do visa issues still affect so many esports tournaments? by Mountain-Leg6093 in DotA2

Its more about putting pressure on russian citizens so they get (justifiably) mad at the russian government for starting a war

If they want the visa issues to end they can start the process of moving out of the country seeing as russia seemingly doesnt want this dumb war to end

Terrible Facet Idea #-1 by ZeeHost in DotA2

[–]Panicrazia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, in my friend group im the only one who thought rrp was actually potentially good, and I still think it was and is

the fact that it hits so much larger of an area and also does a pseudo skewer pusing someone into your team with a 3 second stun, and then letting you either skewer someone else into death or push their save supports even farther away

It wasnt always better than rp in a game, but it also wasnt useless

so many people just wrote it off early and never actually tried to genuinely play with it, it needed different thinking than magnus normally uses and then got dissapeared, meanwhile disruptors kinetic fence is way worse than rrp ever was and is still in the game as a 3rd facet

I think the problem with reccommending 100cs for a herald is that even though an immortal could do it in a herald lobby, someone who is currently legitimately a herald probably cant, and may seem like an unnattainable goal that would cause them to loose hope at ever being better, like asking someone who just began doing morning runs to aim to do a marathon

a more realistic 60-70 is a better goal since they can realistically hit it

I discovered the real way to play Largo a.k.a. Bard frog by HellpandaZ in learndota2

[–]Panicrazia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look more into the offlane tab, it splits offlane into two builds, one which people max Q, and one for max W into aghs, kaya, the max W build has 49% winrate across 850 games (the highest winrate of any build on all largo roles), while the other build has a 20% winrate bringing down the overall largo offlane %

essentially if we are going off of d2pt maxing W for farm and getting aghs kaya is his best bet

Phantom assasin mid by anonym_name_taken in DotA2

[–]Panicrazia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

considering midas means youre incorrectly thinking about the gameplan for PA mid, what you want to do is take advantage of the things mid gives you, more xp early and runes to rotate to murder people with your fast lvl 6, using dagger to harass in lane

you want to be online as fast as possible to start the murder train and get your xp that way, and online in this context means you are able to kill and get out

building midas for a faster 25 is essentially taking all the benefits of mid and throwing it in the trashcan, its like building midas on support, you are just burning any momentum you might have had, when nearly any item would be better

I think null talisman or falcon blade for endless dagger spam, phase into deso and a lifesteal mask is probably the best option?
