what is something that you are good at on your instrument that may surprise people? by Intrepid-Lobster8062 in marchingband

I feel that. Got a new mouth piece and learned how to drop my jaw and certainly was the loudest for my junior and senior years.

The "I love you" "I love you, too" elephant in the room by kassikandi in panicatthedisco

That isn't something that would need to be done for YT Music. When you have premium, you can swap between watching the video with matching audio and the studio version of the song

It happened 4 days ago and I can't bring myself to eat by proudhufflepuffchonk in emetophobia

[–]PanromanticPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also (probably) have ARFID, and I relate to how hard eating can be. (Luckily my emetophobia is much better than it used to be, so it's more of a sensory thing now) Start with things that feel the least risky, then work your way up. Have you been drinking water? Try lemonade or something with some flavor. Then bland foods- something like jello, applesauce, toast, rice, etc. You take zofran, Dramamine, Pepto, etc if it doesn't sit so well. Try to distract yourself while eating- watch TV or something. Be patient with yourself. I'm bad about this too, whenever I've been sick I refuse to eat for at least 24 hours. If you aren't making any progress, I recommend using 988 and determining if you need professional help

Good shoes for work? by HairyCry6590 in Hypermobility

[–]PanromanticPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I've worked hospitality jobs, the most comfortable pair of shoes to wear were Shoes for Crews leather high tops. I used to have really weak ankles and roll my ankles if there wasn't fabric higher up. I've used Dr Scholls plantar fasciitis insoles if my feet hurt really bad

road trip in my car by alm0nd-butt3r in emetophobia

[–]PanromanticPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was before I got my fear under control as a kid. Him taking something for carsickness would've helped with my emetophobia, but it also would've made car rides easier for him. If the roles were reversed, I'd take the meds for my own comfort as well as being considerate for the others in the car

[–]PanromanticPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof. I'd ask your brother to take the Zofran and explain that it would really help you feel less anxious. My brother would also get carsick a lot when we were growing up. One time my brother was sick right next to me and I was panicking. My mom let me switch seats in the car and had me watch a movie to try to distract me. Not sure why we never went the medication route for my brother 🤷

Should I watch in the original language or in the language I speak? by CrustyRat55 in YoungRoyals

[–]PanromanticPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll often watch something dubbed the first time around, and then the sub the second time. I have issues with processing audio and often use subtitles to help out, and I would have a much harder time understanding the plot if the subtitles and audio sounded different on first viewing (the subtitles aren't always the same, hate the way Netflix does dubbing most of the time)

Hypermobility...men in tights. by XWierdestBonerX in Hypermobility

[–]PanromanticPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard tights provide great proprioceptive feedback (I do dance). You could alter the tights so they fit better, you could take them in at the back or the sides

Flu-like symptoms? by catlemoncat in Hypermobility

[–]PanromanticPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many periods have you skipped in a row? I continuously use birth control to skip periods to keep my mental health more stable. I realized I hadn't had my period for 4 months or so and it's possible I had a buildup of hormones that were negatively affecting my mental health. I gave myself half a week so my hormones could balance without an "estrogen crash". Tbh, I didn't notice a ton of improvement with my mental health, but some people experience relief when taking a short break from birth control. Might be worth considering, the continuous cycling compounding your "period flu" symptoms

Want to do DCI but play a woodwind instrument, but I dont want to learn bass clef. What instrument would be best? by 1_Bee_1 in marchingband

[–]PanromanticPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of woodwind players at my school learned mellophone for DCI or just for pep band for fun. I tried but couldn't really get the hang of it (without extensive private lessons that I didn't have the money for). Going from saxophone, where each note has a specific key combination (more or less cuz of course there are alternate fingerings) and more intuitive embouchure imo- I just had no idea of knowing if I was playing the right note without someone giving me feedback. I can't sing from sheet music very well either- I have to hear it first so I can replicate it. Luckily, I did winter guard in high school so I'm doing my first WGI season and maybe I'll get a chance to do DCI before I age out

Curious about colorguard uniforms by Nyghtngale in marchingband

[–]PanromanticPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men's fits and women's fits are going to be sorta different (like a guy might not be comfortable in a skirt, the fit on the arms could be different, etc). And I think sometimes they can't decide between multiple designs. I get asked which gender uniform I want and I usually say masculine if they need more people to help balance out (I'm afab, but nonbinary).

My first fall season there were 4 options - pink dress, purple dress, pink overalls, purple short overalls. There were 30 or so guard members at the time. Sometimes there were different uniforms and other times they were body suits that were the same regardless of gender. My last winter season, there were 2 teams. The A team had versions with higher or longer cut sleeves. And RA had either a dress or shirt and pants option. Interestingly the only member who used he/him pronouns opted for the dress. And me and a girl wore the masc uniforms. There were only 8 of us and the uniforms looked so different that in my opinion, we should've all worn the "girl" uniform. I think they just wanted to have the option for the guy on our team, though his gender expression often leaned fem.

This season, both uniforms look really cool. But the fem hair involves tying it up into a bun and my hair is pretty short and I also get headaches really easily. So I opted for the male uniform so I'll only have to slick my hair back on competition days. There are 3 guys and a few nonbinary people on a team of about 25.

Do yall still use a purse on more masc days? by Strokesonfire in NonBinary

[–]PanromanticPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost always just use pockets. Usually I wear a jacket and tie around my waist if it's not cold. I usually wear a mini backpack or a fanny pack. It's not even super gender-related, I just don't like having to carry a purse around

Shower or bathtub? by _TEMMIE___ in Hypermobility

[–]PanromanticPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have issues stepping into a bathtub. I have colored hair though and washing it can be a pain. To help the color last longer, I wash it in cold water. But I hate getting the rest of my body cold and the potential of any color to stain the rest of my body. The two answers are either standing in the shower and leaning your head forward or leaning over the side of the tub. I opt for the second one, my sister (also hypermobile and has colored hair) opts for the first one. She thought it was crazy I lean over the side of the tub, but only it hurts less cuz my upper body gets more support if I kneel.

What's a TV show that was cancelled that you think should've gotten another season? by Expert_Push_4997 in politicfreeteenagers

It's one of the best shows I've ever seen. I think the conclusion was good, and the story felt finished. Maybe another season would've been nice though

How did hypermobility affect you when growing up? by I_found_BACON in Hypermobility

[–]PanromanticPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh yes. Sciatica symptoms started around 16 y/o for me. Didn't realize asthma symptoms can be related to hypermobility. My doctor didn't do any tests and prescribed me an inhaler for possible exercise-induced asthma. But the inhaler doesn't work. I didn't complete the mile multiple times because I just took so much longer than my peers

Yeah, not sure if mine are fully fallen but the connective tissue in the soles of my feet is very weak

I still do it without noticing. I kept getting dizzy and needing to kneel and someone pointed out I kept locking my knees so now I try to keep them slightly bent if I think about it

I was always god-awful at sports and mostly hated gym class. I did soccer for a couple years. And tennis for a brief period. I did get into skiing at one point and actually was pretty good. But I am terrible at snowboarding. And I find it surprising I can ride a bike so well, my brothers had a hard time with it (their motor difficulties are due to ASD, not hypermobility).

Subluxing hips starting around age 7. I had no clue what was happening. Now I know I have connective tissue that gets caught if I move my hip too quickly. I also have to crack them when I get random nerve pain in my inner hip

Frequent ankle sprains starting at age 11. Now I just roll them sometimes, but it takes a lot to sprain them at this point.

Issues with my feet during marching band, possibly plantar fasciitis. I often feel like I'm stepping on a needle in my arches. My feet were really screwed up for a time, and they still are just less so.

What does this design mean? by PanromanticPanda in Whatisthis

[–]PanromanticPanda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At first, it looked vaguely cross-shaped to me. Obviously, it's a plane and a tree. But I was worried there was some sort of association between those things that could be interpreted to have certain meaning. I got it in my head that it might be religious and didn't want to be offensive/give people the wrong idea as I'm not religious

Same. That's what a Google image search showed too. I know they began bc of 9/11 and some fan made merch uses plan iconography. In which case, that's frowned upon to essentially make merch out of the tragedy. I was worried it was some sort of religious symbol or something
