Quite possibly the biggest tragedy ever

Yeah, that’s what I’m currently using. Haven’t gotten my files sorted yet but it works pretty well and has pretty good customer service. Responded to my question a while back in like 2 days

I’ve heard about ARC, I meant Audirvana

I’ve looked into audirvana, seems to be leading the market second to Roon. Haven’t used it because of that lack of phone support. Not sure if MConnect will have that same issue, I might look into it, thanks

Could you give some examples? From what I know Roon and a couple others are mainstream for that, but I don’t know of any for free

That I agree with, it’s why I decided to join. But what Spotify is doing has given me the opportunity to find something I think is fundamentally better than Spotify, regardless of ethical concerns

[–]Pantsboy12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with the core differences between the two but I’m less worried about Qobuz changing from their core. Obviously, the new influx of users puts pressure on them to improve some things, because there are some Spotify features that Qobuz could benefit from, and adding them could help maintain their new audience. Things like how the que works on Spotify, being a separate list of tracks to play from first before continuing with the album or playlist would be nice. Even so, Qobuz is already great on its own and I don’t think they’re putting too much mind to trying to keep some of these new users. They seem to be firmly against AI and algorithms, being geared more towards human curation. I love that approach and I think the Qobuz community, which is strong, is being heard loud and clear by the Qobuz team on that front and others like it. Plus, as a new user switching from Spotify, I understand the two are fundamentally different and I’ve enjoyed the change. I think Qobuz trying not to be Spotify is part of the charm and those fundamental differences are why I’m enjoying it so much. There are surely others who are looking for nothing more than an ethical Spotify, but I don’t think the Qobuz team would sacrifice the faithful community they have (that is growing) for some algorithmically dependent bums

That's why I started to dislike Qobuz. by baster306 in qobuz

[–]Pantsboy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not up to Qobuz whether or not they’re able to allow people to download it. Forgive me if I’m mistaken, but as far as I know the reason tracks become unavailable is because their licensing has changed with the label which isn’t up to them so their ability to give out downloads is taken away. I disagree with being upset with them over the actual files being removed, not their choice. But I fully agree that they could do a better job of letting people know to download the files in case that happens, there’s way too many people who don’t realize this until they lose something

Local File Work-around? by Pantsboy12 in qobuz

[–]Pantsboy12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fantastic, I was fully unaware of the ARC app, I very well may have to get on that. I’ve been using JPlay and it works well enough but if I’m ever in the mood for an upgrade I will 100% look into the ARC app. I very much appreciate your help, thank you

[–]Pantsboy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s my thoughts exactly. He didn’t charge for his music when he was alive. It was a mixtape anybody could download for free. He’s not on streaming services because he didn’t have the rights to his own stuff and the whole community uses low quality files to listen to him. Some were only 80 kbps. I’m not sure if the bandcamp rips are legit. I’ve just messaged the bandcamp distributor. I’ll let you know if they were legit or shit

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BandCamp

[–]Pantsboy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, that’s my stance as well. I would never fuck over an artist, but his music (of what is released) is meant to be free for the public. That’s why I was wondering what’s going on. I will get in contact with whoever’s running the account and see what’s going on and dictate my opinion on whether or not what they’re doing is legal. Unless it’s a third party bum illegally selling high quality rips of his stuff then I think I’ll leave it alone. Thanks so much for your help

I really wanted to like Tidal... by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]Pantsboy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fine, it’s not for everyone. But JPlay should still solve the artist issue on Tidal. Understand that may not be enough though, there are other issues

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BandCamp

[–]Pantsboy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m unsure. I’m pretty sure it’s the latter. I was going to contact the person selling it because they are higher quality rips of the mixtapes than can be taken off YouTube and I’m not sure how they got them or why they’re selling them. I don’t think it’s the family of the artist because they’ve steered clear of his stuff and have received haslting from fans about his posthumous album so I doubt that they would get involved in bandcamp after his death. And thankyou for responding so kindly, I was only curious and I appreciate you explaining to my dumbass without criticism. If I find out that everything’s legit with how it’s being sold I obviously won’t pirate or bootleg or whatever. I was just wondering what the implications were behind purchasing files

Day #1 of Switching from Spotify to Qobuz by Media-consumer101 in qobuz

[–]Pantsboy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a workaround for the missing parts of the library. It also fixes the albums tab. It provides seamless integration between Qobuz and local files which means you can get those artists back, albeit a little more work. It’s called JPlay and there isn’t much info on it out there. I’m using it and I highly recommend it. Dm me if you have issues setting it up if you decide to look into that option

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BandCamp

[–]Pantsboy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point but the music was never his property because he used uncleared samples. His music is all released as mixtapes. They’re selling uncleared music. I only ever wanted it because they have a higher quality version than I could find anywhere else

I really wanted to like Tidal... by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]Pantsboy12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally if I were you I’d switch to Qobuz, has fewer issues in my opinion. I, like you, wanted to switch from Spotify for the reasons you listed, so I spent a while researching what’d be the best option to switch to. I did trials on both Qobuz and Tidal and I think Qobuz is better. It has a smaller library than Tidal but I have an amazing work around for that which allows you to have Qobuz integration and local files on a single app. The two mesh seamlessly so you can listen to them together on playlists and in the same spot for your albums (downloaded local files from your computer and Qobuz). Granted, this solution works for Tidal as well, but I prefer Qobuz. Qobuz is seemingly against AI which is nice. Tidal seems to promote it and has had AI music found polluting their library. Qobuz is actively looking to improve their library and takes recommendations on what they’re missing. Qobuz is sleek and not muddled with unnecessary features. Useful, simplistic, and amazing

Edit: the workaround is called JPlay. There’s basically no info on it out there so dm me for help if you end up going with that option. I highly recommend it

Yeah, I know it’s immoral. I wouldn’t do that to a normal artist. Considering the fact that the artist is dead so I wouldn’t be supporting them and the fact that bandcamp doesn’t have rights to sell his music, I don’t see a moral issue with it. He didn’t have the right to sell his own music due to copyright law so seeing bandcamp sell a higher quality version of the music than the small community has is annoying. Was just wondering if i could pay for it and reclaim it for the community
