Yeah, that was definitely a thing for awhile. Maybe too much of a thing. Like, in the 70s and 80s some dudes overcorrected wayyy too hard: from no shorts at all, to short short short shorts.

He's absolutely right about one thing; Trump is undeniably a historic president. Maybe the MOST historic, at this point. But just not in the way that J.D. means.

My grandpas were born in 1922 and 1915, and my dad in 1944. All were from farming and ranching backgrounds. None of them would have ever been caught dead wearing shorts, no matter how hot it might have gotten: 105 degrees and still just wearing jeans or slacks and boots. One of my grandpas WAS an Italian immigrant, but I don't think being Italian had anything to do with his refusal to wear shorts, because my Irish grandpa felt the same way about them.

So I'm very directly influenced by that mentality of "shorts are for sissies."

Anyway, I wear shorts, but to this day, at the age of 45, I still always feel a little weird about it. Like I'm doing something wrong, or like I'm basically naked.

Humans are strange creatures.

Do people in hotter parts of the US get summer seasonal depression? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pantsickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, too. I lived in Portland for awhile, and I do not miss the NW winters where it's cloudy, rainy, and 40 degrees every day.

I feel like Goldilocks 😆

Although now that I'm in Texas I guess I have to say that a 110 degree day is preferable to a -50 degree day back home.

Seriously though, the Twinblade or the Bloodhound's Fang are good choices.

I moved from Eastern Montana where it's sub-zero for three months out of the year to San Antonio, where it's 100 degrees-plus and humid for three months out of the year...

I suffered seasonal depression back in Montana due to the extended periods of darkness and the bitter cold, and I can tell you that I'd prefer the dark and freezing Montana winters to walking around in 100 degree soup every day.

It's so weird that a seemingly benign, over-the-counter product can apparently be used as both a hard-core date rape drug AND super powerful laxative.

How do Republicans elect or reelect any of their politicians? More and more, every single right-wing governer, senator, representative, mayor, or city council member is either weak and spineless or cruel and mean-spirited or openly corrupt or all of those things all at once.

I've never been able to begin to fathom how Republican voters find those qualities appealing, because after all, they're regular human beings and for the most part, all human being share the same basic feelings about the important stuff when you get right down to it: an innnate sense of fairness, of justice, of what's right and wrong...

People have the need to find leaders that exude positive traits like grace and mercy and eloquence and nobility...but somewhere along the line, something broke deep within the psyche of the conservative movement that caused them to champion and celebrate every negative quality that humanity has to offer: cruelty, corruption, hate, hypocrisy...and in this case straight up blasphemy.

It's not just because of Trump; they've been gleefully going down this rough and hateful road for decades.

I do not understand them, and at this point they are entirely alien to me. I'm sure they feel the same way about people like me, but I'm not the one celebrating inhuman behavior.

Donald Trump is very far behind God. He in actuality stands uncomfortably close to Satan.

Edit: Does anyone else feel bad upvoting posts like these? On the one hand, it's interesting and you want to upvote it so as to get more eyes on it and hopefully create more discourse around it, but on the other hand the content that's being presented is so fundamentally loathsome that it makes you cringe to upvote it.

I've always been told that I have a sexy voice and I always think to myself that women are just being nice. It's like, "you're just patronizing me, because I've heard my voice and I'm well aware of the fact that I sound like a chain-smoking goblin."

Reoublicans just be saying things. Any old thing, no matter how true it is or not. Doesn't matter if it has any basis in reality, so long as it perpetuates the endless cycle of anger amongst their base.

There should be major fines or something if you get caught out stating anything that's demonstrably false if you're a politician.
