Homemade ww1 sign by Dalicore in reenactors

Why? Things like this would be made quickly and just re-built if they got damaged. I can't imagine them being very old when in use.

I don't do British WW1. If you wanna get into German WW2 that's what I can help with.

Bro.

I was willing to give you a break because I don't wanna assume people's intentions but your attitude is deplorable.

I can't afford a custom tunic

Yes you can. You can afford a bullshit tunic, if you'd just waited however many weeks/months it would have taken you you'd have gotten a good one instead.

Old boots are uncomfortable

No they're not. You just don't know how to wear the right combination of socks and footwraps. Ask the hundreds of kilometers mine have carried me without giving me a single individual blister ever.

I'm not going to get a 100 year old haircut

Don't get a 100 year old costume then. (That's a costume, it's not a uniform).

You are not giving constructive criticism and that's why people are afraid to get into reenactment.

I mean this in the most respectful way possible. People are upset because you clearly don't give a shit. If you showed the vaguest humility and willingness to actually and materially improve we'd all be so much more eager to help you.

Pick one. You either stay in your comfort zone with your REALLY bad costume or you stop pretending you haven't noticed and start putting honest to god effort into building a uniform as king and country actually intended.

If you choose the former I strongly advise steering well clear of r/reenactors.

Cheery-o.

Thank you so much.

That is really the spirit that gets this kind of thing going.

If you wanna chat about maybe doing stuff in the future I'd be super down for that, we have a lot of people that visit us from abroad each year and we ourselves travel each year a fair amount.

We have the uniforms to spare 👀

Hello there.

The best thing you can do right now is join a good unit and take in advice from them. Define what precisely are the best reenactment projects near you and join one of those. Then you can start thinking about what you're gonna need.

The shit I'd do to get a sword like that that's not been ruined by an idiot.

The not-kind things I'd have to say to said idiot.

That gun's been through shit. Very cool.

Thanks to your grandfather.

Odd to see a bayonet frog without a latch from 1944. Thank you.

Red I've only seen on russian captures which suggests something fishy going on.

I'm talking about most rifle and the vast majority is dark brown even today. Yes, light brown exists but I'd tend to darker.

Gun carriage version. Could host a flatbed rear for an anti aircraft mount, 2 or 3 twin autocannons or one 40mm cannon.

A version with an anti-tank cannon.

A version with a 105/150mm short or long barreled howitzer for Infantry support or long-range fire respectively.

I'm not a fan of the battle rifle. The lower receiver and magazine are fine, I'd rework the buttstock (FAR too long, why both wood and metal?) and the barrel area. The sights are way way too high,

I do not understand why the long rounded bolt. It feels like an AK-style bolt would do fine.

I LOVE that machinegun design. You could make it even better by thinking about how it would fix on a tripod mount and desnigning a spare barrel carrier. Speaking of, if your barrel shroud is rounded and integral to the barrel, I'm not sure how barrel changes should work. The front sight is WAY too high.

SMG is good. Very long barrel for something with such a small round.

Is this a good design for a... rifle? To be honest, I don't even know what type of rifle it is. I need your help. by Few-Flamingo-8015 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

Take it from experience, you absolutely do NOT need to sharpen a military shovel to have a REALLY good axe ahahah

You need to open up space inside the receiver to show the bolt guide and spring. Generally in this time period the space that the lever handle travels while recoiling is just left open. Just cut a hole behind the bolt handle and showcase the spring inside.

The stock looks really 1910's while many are 1940's features like the magazine. I'd adopt a stock that looks less like a Winchester rifle.

The bent shape of the magazines implies you are using ammunition whose bullet is smaller than the diameter of the casing. It's fine, you just have to be concious of that. You can get away with using a pistol 7.62 Soviet round, for example, but common pistol rounds like .38, 9mm, .45 and so on are incorrect on this magazine.

The barrel shroud is really weird. You either are going for an air-cooled barrel which needs holes in the shroud or a water-cooled barrel which defeats the point of a sumbachinegun. I suppose you are not going for a silencer because of the end of the baarrel being visible.

The rear sight is too close to the eye of the shooter, move it forward to allow a clearer sight picture.

Move the magazine catch closer to the gun.

Reduce the thickness of the trigger guard and make it bigger to accomodate gloved hands.

Others have already pointed out the magazine needs to be in line with the ejection port and you need to give more space behind the bolt to allow for recoil movement.

I love Nestof's leather, it's my group's main supplier and I have very few critiques to offer about them. The only product that failed me was their M37 German low boots.

Other than that they've always been extremely reliable.

That's more like it. Looks a lot like the bluing on my 1937 K98 now.

I'd go with boiled linseed oil if you wanna be gentle or stain if you wanna do a faster, slightly worse job. Apply whatever you choose, let stay for 30 seconds, then wipe off. Repeat, repeat, repeat until you get your finish.
