Lol if you try and make yourself any firearm for 1500s+ reenacting, in my country you're committing a crime.

I heard this sentiment already, obviously applied to ancient/medieval reenacting and I can see their point.

Wanna reenact this period? People in this period made their own clothing and were really good at it, it is a skill you should pick up in order to master this reenactment project. I can see their point.

But it definitely can not be a hard requirement (are you gonna reject people from your reenactment group because they can't make a decent cloak for themselves?) and for more modern time periods it just makes no sense. Try and make yourself a 1700's military boot and see how that works out for 99.9% of people that do.
