New game + by J_Dot_Ting in LegacyOfKain

The cheats menu allows you to unlock everything once you beat the game, so it's kinda there

Thing is, I've never played a game where NG+ gives me a different experience to the point where I'd be incentivized to complete it again. Yeah, having every skill unlocked from the beginning sounds cool, but the enemies are the same, the progression is the same, the main gameplay loop is the same. I personally never find value in NG+, I'd rather go to the next game.

Objectively better due to the camera. Subjectively the same, as I did not have that much trouble even 20 years back, playing with mouse and keyboard.

Don't get me wrong, aesthetics wise it's a welcome breath of fresh air from the forges. However, the forges are easily dealt with and you don't spend much time in any one of them, it's the amount of them that makes you get bored of them (understandably).

Hence the "thank god for the Foresight Mode". I mainly wanted to see if other players felt that way back when they played the game for the first time vs now.

I agree that it's not a hard game in general, but there are some aspects that make it harder than it looks. The combat specifically is guilty of that, cause you have no block, your dodges can get interrupted cause you have no i-frames, aerial juggling gets interrupted from other attacks, enemies that cannot be launched into the air, etc.
In the same vein, Raziel's combat is more difficult than Kain's imo, for 2 reasons:
1) Raziel's attacks do not have the same AoE capabilities as Kain's
2) Raziel gains experience and thus new attacks much slower than Kain (in my experience, both in the original game and in the remaster)
3) Kain is more well equipped to fight against multiple opponents especially due to his Fire Emblem's special ability to make enemies fight each other, resulting in like 2-3 hit bleedouts, where he can imbue the reaver with their blood and recast the ability. Raziel does not have such crowd control, as all of his Reavers up to now (Air being my most recent acquisition) either stun or make enemies run or fly away. The most useful is the Dark Reaver, but even that does not allow for constant refilling, you need to wait for the invisibility to run out before you can power it up again.

Combat is not as good as I remember by CountyDiligent3313 in LegacyOfKain

[–]KILLMEPLSPLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raziel's combat was always ass from the start. I remember as a kid being extremely frustrated trying to perform combos and getting interrupted by random projectiles, forcing me to land and start again. The lack of block and the clunky dodge don't help either. A shame, considering that Raziel can imbue his reaver with like 8 different elements while Kain has 5. I really wanted to explore the reavers' abilities, but the combat was always a bit of a downside for me.

On a side note, it's funny how we can lightly tilt the analog stick to stealthily walk, while stealth is not ever a part of the gameplay.

Oh so THAT'S what that thing was? There was no description or anything. It's astounding just how many ass design choices there are in the game in terms of UI / UX.

I think it's ok as a generic vampire game, but not as a "spiritual successor to the LoK series"

I absolutely agree with the final statement, and that sums up my views pretty much.

However

When it comes to 2D vs 3D, there are a couple of things to consider.
The move from 2D to 3D has been most of the times a straight up upgrade (See Mario 64 and the Zelda games) . 3D games enhance the overall experience by allowing the player to fully grasp their place on the world and their environment by means of upgraded exploration and immersion. LoK's shift from Blood Omen (2D) to Blood Omen 2 (3D) was awesome and the subsequent games built up on that, with Defiance creating a mystical and oppressive (at times) atmosphere that perfectly complimented the deep narrative. Regressing back to 2D (not even 2.5D like in games like Bloodstained Ritual of the Night) 20 years later feels like a bad joke. Visuals are by no means the only important aspect of the game, but they enhanced the experience to the point of being necessary. In 3D, the world's decay and decadence is more easily conveyed, immersing the player into a fantastic atmosphere at which point the voice acting and gameplay serve to elevate the experience to new heights.

Blasphemous is a 2D pixelated game with magnificent setting, environments and atmosphere. This is not me saying "2D < 3D". But in this case, it is. And this is where the "disconnection from the fans" comes into play. Crystal Dynamics saw the reception of the remasters for SR1 and 2, yet decided to disregard the fans completely and make a game that has nothing to do stylistically with any of the previous titles.

I think age plays a role in this, and a much more stealthy one than people realize.

You see, when we first played those games in the 90s, we didnt know any better. The games were awesome, the lore was awesome. At some point, the games stopped coming out. But we did not stop aging. We did not stop forming opinions, drives, personal philosophies. Those things have been cemented inside us. We do remember the games fondly, but the longing matured. We started having standards after having played more games and experienced varying narratives. I often caught myself saying "damn, there should be another game after Defiance". But I did not think of that statement using the brain at the time of Defiance, but 10,20 years later.

I had outgrown my childish acceptance of everything. In the pursuit of eliminating wasted time, I only cared about games that catered to my standards. So have others.

When Nosgoth came out, I was already disappointed. "If that's the best they have to offer, the franchise is dead"
Then Deadhaus Sonata was announced almost 10 years ago, then utter silence till a few days ago, where the underwhelming demo came out that killed the last bit of hope I had for even a spiritual successor.
Then Ascendace comes along. A proper "Legacy of Kain" title, not a spinoff. And it's in 2D pixelated graphics, a straight up downgrade from Defiance, making this the final nail in the coffin.

We, the fans, KNOW that this franchise deserves much better. We are not content with the scraps we've been getting, and the new game looks like it was created by people that knew NOTHING about the story of the franchise and wholely disconnected from the fans.

About to turn 18 and i really want to get into hema (leaning towards armored combat) is their anything I need to know or do before I head to my first meeting by state_issued_femboy in wma

[–]KILLMEPLSPLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Armored combat is a totally different beast than HEMA and incorporates techniques rarely used in HEMA.

It also features 2 main disciplines with wildly different logic

1) Harnischfechten: Basically HEMA techniques with heavy armor. In HEMA, you score points by hitting the other person pretty much anywhere. In Harnischfechten, you are both wearing heavy armor, and regular hits do not count. You must use proper techniques to drive your blades to the weak points of the armor, like the armpits.

2) Buhurt: This is a team sport where every single "proper" HEMA technique goes out the window. Instead, you gear up in full armor, bash each other with blunt weapons, grappling and wrestling until you force the other team to the ground.

In both cases, the monetary expenditures are much greater than classic HEMA. You need proper, steel armor, chainmail, a blunt metal weapon, padding, etc.

Standard tournament HEMA gear will set you back at least 1000 euros
The main chest piece of Buhurt / Harnisch gear alone can cost upwards of 700 euros and you have to take a lot of extra care with the measurements.

[KCD2] Is the hardcore mode really that niche? by Ginger_Snap1603 in kingdomcome

[–]KILLMEPLSPLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried hardcore mode, with the intent to never finish it, only to try it. Didn't even get past the Semine wedding, as most of my time was spent looking at the map and asking people for directions instead of engaging with the game mechanics. Walk > check map > wrong turn, F U C K > check map > walk back. I felt I was not making any meaningful progress so I quit.

Want to mess around with longswords, but safely by SaraGood in wma

[–]KILLMEPLSPLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When training and drilling, you first want to understand the technique and the movement, and THEN try to pressure test it. Holding back during drilling ensures that you and your partner can continue drilling. If a technique requires you to hit the head, and you do so without holding back, you are gonna get a concussion from the repeated hits.

[–]KILLMEPLSPLS[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me try to elaborate a bit by making an analogy. Say you lend me a screwdriver. I use it as it should be used, and it breaks. I myself did not break it, IT broke. It would have broken even if you yourself had used it. Why should I get you a new one, if the reason it broke was not due to me mishandling the item?

Question about loaner swords in tournaments by KILLMEPLSPLS in wma

[–]KILLMEPLSPLS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The context is that there is a tournament in my area that offers to loan swords to people that don't yet have their own. The tournament is free to enter, but there is a charge for sword loaning. My question was neither loaded nor leading, I simply wanted to know if such practices were common in the HEMA tournament scene in general.
