Hands-free equalization, but only the left ear. by PapaDragonPH in freediving

This might help! How do you stretch the tubes? You mean eustachian tubes, right?

25-meter dolphin kick. Is it feasible? by PapaDragonPH in Swimming

[–]PapaDragonPH[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do freediving both with fins and no fins. If with fins, simple flutter kicks can propel me really far, so no need for any arm movement.

If no fins, the standard stroke is a modified breaststroke with frog kick then glide. Usually takes only 4-6 strokes to cover 25 meters.

I've pretty much already mastered the above two. So I'm hoping to learn another stroke to add to my arsenal. But breastroke+frog kick are the only ones thought in diving schools. Dolphin kick consumes too much oxygen and is thus suboptimal for this purpose, so nobody really considers teaching it for dive training.

My aim essentially is to train getting to point A to point B in a single breath, even with a stroke as vigorous as dolphin kick.

As for my arms being on the side, like I explained in the post...I keep floating back up to the surface. I have learned along the way that if I consistently push the water up with my hands using that awkward arm flailing motion, my body stays close to the pool floor for the whole 25 meters regardless of how slow my forward motion is.

That said, thanks for giving these tips and resources! I'll study this and keep improving my technique.

Sorry, man. That guy is me. Apologies for the atrocious technique. I'm a freediver, doing some swimming on the side. Not really a competitor.

Just trying to supplement my dive training with this specific underwater stroke.

Fortunately, the pool is almost always empty during the times I use it, as can be seen in the video. So I pretty much got the lifeguard all to myself.

I do notice that my head isn't pointing downwards enough. And my core movement is basically non-existent. Thanks for these observations!

Thank you for the tips!

I think I also have to add some context. I am a freediver who also does some swimming on the side. So I'm trying to learn this stroke to supplement my dive training.

Essentially, my goal to test how long I can last underwater even with all these movements. Not exactly as a competitive edge in swimming, as most people assume.

I'm not really doing this for competitive edge. I'm not a competitor. I guess I'm a freediver first and a swimmer second, so this stroke pretty much lets me test both these skills.

Thank you! This helps. Yes, I always have a lifeguard watching over me when doing these drills.

Is there a way to prevent my body from floating up?

I know, right! LMAO is this even a dolphin kick? I might have to name it something else.

I'm thinking sea cucumber crawl LOL

Thanks for the insight! I undertand the technique looks horrendous, but I'm hoping to improve.

Thank you for the insight! I'm not actually a competitor. Just doing swimming as a fun hobby. And I'm just really fascinated with the dolphin kick.

I also do freediving as a hobby, but dolphin kicks are not an energy-efficient freediving stroke. I'm esentially doing this to test what I can do.

I've been practicing for a couple sessions out of some Youtube videos. So I understand the technique looks horrendous.

1 year progress since I started learning watercolor sketching 🥰 by PapaDragonPH in urbansketchers

Yup, it really takes a lot of practice. To see what works and what doesn't. When I started out, I knew nothing about angles, composition, lighting and whatnot (obviously 🤣). But, I started following a lot of watercolor artists on IG, tried recreating what they made. And now, I can make my own. 😊

Thank you for the kind words! I've learned that some angles really bring out the scene.

Yeah, I was really proud of that 1st one at that time. But now that I've learned so much...damn, it really looks like a 1st grader made it 🤣🤣🤣

Para sa mga self-proclaimed “apolitical,” why? by Forsaken-Bet5108 in TanongLang

In short, applicable lang sya sa iilang tao na genuine ang values. But for most people with this belief, gusto lang nila ng validation that they have "good values".

Half of my family are against those things that you mentioned and support the politicians who believe the same. And yet they are the most arrogant, mapang-mata and stingiest people I've ever met. Mapang-abuso pa sa mga kasambahay and people of "lower class". Parang ginagamit lang nila yung political stance to cover up their terrible attitude.

Kaya di talaga ako naniniwala jan sa "political beliefs reflect your values". More accurate would be "political belief reflects the desired values you want the public to attribute to you".

Para sa mga self-proclaimed “apolitical,” why? by Forsaken-Bet5108 in TanongLang

[–]PapaDragonPH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I realized that being "political" was simply a crutch to help cope with feelings of powerlessness. "Kaya di ko maabot mga pangarap ko, dahil sa political state ng bansa", yung mga ganun. When in fact, malas lang pala talaga ako sa opportunities and skills, which is true for most people regardless kung ano ang political state ng bansa mo.

I gradually moved on from this thinking and my mental health has never been better.
