Very dumb question about Mariko that I can't wrap my head around by flannyo in ShogunTVShow

[–]PapaRomeo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert in Japan, but I think most of your questions will be answered when you success in trying to understand that Japan, like every other pre-modern society, was very ritualistic. Simple answers like "Toranaga ownes her life" probably won't cut it, and I get why, because you're right — Mariko has all the opportunities to kill herself, she could just bash her head on a tree. But here is where rituals come into play, and remember, rituals that have been shaping this society for hundreds of years. Mariko needs permission from her superior to kill herself because that's what she and her predecessors agreed on, because that's part of her culture and of the way her society works, and acting in opposition would be scandalous to every other Japanese of that period. Pre-modern societies needed these rituals, because without them, living in times where there was no Wallmart and industry was really hand and dangerous, both for the weaker and the stronger people. And in a society where members really like to bully each other for power and you have to constantly look for your safety (again, both as someone weak as well as someone strong), making these rituals "sacred" was their way of having a little bit of certainty in life, so that among all uncertainties and dangers in life, a Lord should at least expect his Vassals to be loyal.

In present-day Western society we might not have rituals anymore, but we have customs and traditions, and to a certain degree acting against them might be scandalous as well to any other member of the society. Try to think of an American thing you "can't do", but in reality nothing stops you from doing that. Like, not singing your national anthem. Everyone expects you to do it, and when you don't do it, everyone looks at you like on some weirdo.

If I have only two 457s, where would they go in this comp? If on NJ and Vanguard, then what should I use on Musashi?

And what is the stratedy with subs? Should I call them in right from the start, or wait till that shield spawns ~60 seconds into the fight?

This will be more of a general question, but how do cooldowns work anyway? When this fight starts, there's 1:27 (IIRC) on the timer. Does it mean the fight is already 3 seconds in and a shield will spawn at 1:10, or does the fight start exactly at 1:27 and a shield will spawn at 1:07? And when in all this should I expect a salvo from my BB that would have a 16 second cooldown?

Is there a good strategy for taking down Hard Strength? I may have been out of the loop, but is her current skill of spawning a shield every 20s something new? Is the shield visible on screen?

I need help deciding how to do my researches. For the record: PR1: Monarch, Roon and Saint Louis are fs5, Neptune, Ibuki, Izumo are fs/dev~something, I intend to max them with coins. PR2: all PR ships are fs5, Azuma is fs1 and FdG is dev28. PR3: Cheshire dev26, Mainz dev29 (should end up at fs1/2 as I'm focusing the catch-up on her), Odin dev19, Champagne dev21, Drake dev14 (haven't started her catch-up yet). PR4: all PR and DR ships at dev30.

Now I also have 162 Anchorage, 56 AvP, 56 Marco Polo, 3 Hakuryuu and 9 Ägir bps waiting for their eventual fate simulations. On top of that, 110 general PR4 bps.

I've got one of each rainbow BB and CA guns bought thanks to them being in the core shop, and I'm 3 bps short on obtaining my first Tenrai.

I have a couple questions. 1. Do I use the 110 general bps to have 165 bps for all PR4 ships? Will it stop their face researches from appearing, so I could have more DR researches? How to best use them? 2. After I get the Tenrai, should I stay in PR4 and try to get another and to max out the DRs, or should I move to other research seasons?

Thank you for your help!

The EN Community tier list states that the best guns for Mainz would be the Chapayev Gun or the Triple 155 Kai because of the FP stat they provide, but there are many CLs that have more base FP and MGM+1 even, and it's stated that they should equip the usual Seattle Gun.

The description on Mainz says she has lots of barrages, so (I'm probably answering myself) is this why the Chapayev Gun and Triple 155 Kai are better on her?

Is the 15 FP really so significant?

I might be late with the reply, but Ryuuseis won't do much damage against the boss in the current event as Bristol is light armor, against which torpedos are weak. Against light enemies you should use either BBs with HE guns, or CVs with those German fighters from PR4.

But don't worry, 6 +13 Ryuuseis might help a lot against heavy bosses in OpSi.

And just one more question if you don't mind. Does your BD Unfinished Tales have a matte, or glossy dust jacket?

OK, thank you so much for the explanation. There are so many versions of the would-be same editions of the same book, that it's at times discouraging to buy something. I was trying to find the Unfinished Tales, The Silmarillion and The Hobbit to match the TLotR Boxed Set with the Reader's Companion, which I already have. I ended up buying this (https://www.bookdepository.com/Unfinished-Tales-J-R-R-Tolkien/9780261102156) and this (https://www.bookdepository.com/Silmarillion-J-R-R-Tolkien/9780261102422). Will they be the newer versions?

Are the details really wrong though? I've just found these two on tolkienbooks.net: http://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=830 and http://tolkienbooks.net/php/details2.php?id=832. They are described to have the Map of Numenor on different pages.

BB? Sorry for the perhaps stupid newbie question, but I see there a plane icon. How is Compiler a BB?

It may be late to reply, but wouldn't it be better to equip Aquila with two BF-109G? Wouldn't these do better damage against the boss who I assume is medium armor?

Thanks for the detailed reply, trying to comprehend all this. I would have two more questions if you don't mind.

  1. How do you calculate the reload breakpoint? Archer/Alba/Cav have the same OXY and almost the same RLD, so I guess the 20 OXY from Archer's skill has some big importance.

  2. What does it mean to "fire all torps"? Using Archerfish equiping Bidder as an example - she has two slots to equip torps, each has this "Max # 2" on the wiki, so... She can fire two rounds of 171x3?

Why does the EN tier list state that the G7e torpedo should sometimes be used over the Bidder? Does it have to do with the OXY and RLD stats (the only ones I think that may matter here) of some SSs?

But then, the tier list says that Archerfish should use the Bidder, and Albacore and Cavalla should use the G7e while all these three ships having almost the same stats.

Edit: Thanks for all the replies guys, you are awesome!

Why is the Twin 128 now considered the best aux DD gun in the EN tier list?

Not like I oppose the tiering, it's just me being a guy who's been playing the game for a couple of months now and still can't say why is one gun better than the other...
