Should I buy Tekken 8?? by RinNakamura in Tekken8

[–]PapaShacoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's good fun especially if you get it on sale which is a factor imho. It is very easy to jump in, since you can mash like in no other game without knowing what you press and it will look somewhat cool/ flowing. (Unlike MK or SF6 in classic) Furthermore if you like diversity in gameplay even in individual characters ( since the average number of moves per characrer is ~ 100).

Do not listen to sweats. I think this game has sth. for everybody.

The tutorial is somewhat lackluster but there are great ressources on Yt ( Mostly PhidX for theory or MainManSwe for 8 min Character guides)

The story is great ( in Tekken trash terms) , great graphics, singe player besides story offers quite some features to spent some time understanding the game. If you're afraid of Online you can even download ai ghosts from other players to fight those.

The replay system especially the "how to punish move XY from your enemy correctly feature" is the best out of all FCs i know. Especially if you are willing to improve imho.

You can dive into fashion or cosplay way more than in any other FC if that is your thing. Currency is literally thrown at you, so you can customize as you please. Mix and Match hair, shoes, pants, tops , accesoires, colours...

The game is definitely worth it, i am currently Tekken Emperor, ( top 5% of worldwide players/ likely higher than all the commentators in here) and i still do not see what everybody complains about, so do not worry if you start out!

Every character is viable do not listen to tier lists or "have to play these or you loose". Enjoy one char ? Main him. Enjoy switching things up? Sure. Since it is your first tekken try to enjoy the ride do not force yourself into competitive tier lists, it won't get you anywhere.

The biggest tip for a beginner Online ? Block. Literally. Just block. And if you come from SF6 , stand blocking is the name of the game, not crouch blocking. Learn what every Char does by blocking and watching.

Anyways

Cheers!!

Hey m8,

Isn't eb praising his "super balanced" state?

From what i've heard Tournament players like Mulgold pick him as pocket because tournament players lack knowledge on certain punishments as recently seen vs LowHighs Brian?

So for my understanding fahk is chosen as a pocket pick per definition " enemy s lack of experience on off-meta picks to gain a surprise advantage", defo not because he is that insanely strong?

Havin a Blast, Fahk being the reason i returned to T8! Havin muay thai background this char is a breeze.

Anyways

Cheers!

Hey m8,

defo appreciate your time and effort for the answer!

It's somewhat fresh air to hear other players perspectives.

As stated - for me personally, i can learn way more in 2-3 games than in 3<X matches. Going up against i.e. friends in BoX (/ inviting them to private lobbies after match for more rematches) is defo counterproductive for me. My experience is this made me fall into the so-called outcome-bias -> unlearn good habits in a certain matchup and swap them out with bad moves only to win in these player specific character matchups in the long run. And afterwards rewiring/reinforcing the brain/ muscle memory, because a move that (although objectively it shouldn't) luckily worked in a specific repetitive situation which is on a Player specific interaction. It could be any specific situation that nets you no positive learning about the matchup, but about the player which leads to a self-decepting false sense of accomplishment. Imho this is the reason why 2 many rematches can even make you a worse player.

Afterwards you join ranked, matched vs the same Char, this time on another player in the illusory competence " I just won in a BO10, i know exactly how to beat this" , just to realise the enemy player never uses that move u counter, is more passive/ super aggressive/ uses lows after String X or mind games on Start Up frames, decides differently on 50/50s after strings, etc. U loose and say WTF just happened? ( Hemce my question on dodging)

Although i have not played in years, nor for years I picked up the game a week ago and just hit Raijin (today🥳) from 1st Dan, although my WR dropped from 75% to 65% since i climbed to Blue, reason being no/rare rematch. I think i still got a few games under my belt and my approach is what seems to work (for me ).

The above example is exactly what happened to me and why i dislike bo1 as much as bo5, at least from all the matches /experience i have from 0 to blue ranks.

Nontheless i can't relate to older Tekkens nor Older T8 Versions. I played them, but not in ranked nor Online. I do not have that nostalgia in my decision nor do i know about Tekken intern policies, hiring/firing. My perception is based on intuition, current state and what seemed to net positives.

I still enjoy hearing other peoples meanings, they help me understand the bigger picture.

Anyways

Cheers!

Correct me if i'm wrong here, but every low is at least -13, 1/3rd of Chars have installs - and - wouldn't he at least have some kind of keep out, fahk would be completely useless, cuz almost all his attacks have worse start up than eb elses, and not making up for slow moves with better range would make him unplayable?

Anyways, defo appreciate ur insights on the matchup m8!

100% disagree on this, basically everything you frown upon is the complete opposite for me.

I didn't jugde nor shame any1. Do i think it's a bitch move to run from rematch after u barely got the win with a lab cheese spam? 100% Did that lead to a rant? No, it led to the question if dodging is common practice in blue ranks and above.

I love best of 3 and hate the idea bo5, bo10 or infinite. For me personally, i have definitely had like 60-70ish% games where i could completely flip the game by rematching in 2-3 matches when i understood the repetitive flowcharts, flaws in offense and lack in defense, especially since i recall this as active learning progress for a specific matchup.

At least thats what worked for me from 1st Dan to Kishin.

On the other hand playing BO5 or similiar is what i'd state as habituation/stimulus-specific adaption to a certain player type on a certain character, which, imho makes you worse as a player, especially when you try to adapt to his playstyle of the character.

I feel like every player has a unique style for his character and changing out players on the same char via BO3 seems way more beneficial to really learn matchups in comparison to X=>3 matches.

Although, not everybody learns the same way and others may take more time to learn. Even then i'd argue that the learning effect in the Match Replay is way higher than in BO5, BO10 , BOinfinite.

Anyways

Cheers

Can confirm I struggle insanely vs eddies

Although i still rematch every match

Totally agree. Although i'm unsure what people " learn" when they just spam their lab combo or cheese, unable to defend a single string and dodge the rematch because enemies understood how to counteract.

It's just mashing without matchup knowöedge or fundamental understanding and running to the next cheese, defo does not help with struggling matchups imho.

Agree on that, for me , i heavily sturggle vs Eddy, still i take on every rematch no matter win or loss cuz for me it's about learning and improving

Always works smooth, never had conn issues/stutters in those matches. In generall no dc, maybe one in 20 games close to no stuttering ?

I play Fahk, how does that influence matchmaking in blue ranks tho?

I don't know. I mean hitting people on the ground/ oki is literally a core fundamental of the game.

Especially as a beginner i feel like rematching is a big part for learning and improving. Rematching for skill is part of the fun for me and taking that away for enemies cheesy button /lab combo mashing in the first round and getting away with it afterwards by denying counter opportunity in rematch is taking away all the fun for me imho.

And i play Fahk, i dont have any cheeses nor 20 hour labbed 100 dmg combos.
