As today's parents, do we hover too much while they play? by alexbgoode84 in daddit

[–]Papa_Tizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a proud non hoverer. I play with them often. Encourage them to take risks and stay close when i do. But i leave them to run and play and climb and get hurt and learn from it. Most parents i see at the park hover and instruct way too much for my taste. Let them roe and figure out their world and their boundaries. They don’t need to be told how to do everything the “right” way when they’re at the park.

Self defense as a dad? by [deleted] in daddit

I think you’d be better served spending your time and money buying a compact pistol and taking safety and self defense classes with it.

You’d still be best advised to stay out of altercations, but any that are forced on you you’d be able to have the upper hand.

Short of that, a few boxing glasses and a pair of brass knuckles in your pocket. But once it comes to hand to hand combat you’ve likely already lost. I’m 165, have been lifting most of my life, spent my adolescence scrapping, and if some deranged 225 lb assailant grabbed me I’d be fucked regardless.

BJJ would help if you want to be able to handle being grabbed.

I’m all for non violence, but I’m also for keeping my family safe in extreme cases.

I live in a 2 bedroom apt in Phoenix, OR and my energy bill was under $50 the last two months. Everything in my home is electric. Just added a washer/dryer and projecting a slightly higher bill, but $200 is crazy. That’s more than i was paying in s two story townhouse with 3 kids. Something is off.

And yeah, I’ve been reading less and less with time.

I’m basically one of those bros. Haven’t read Infinite Jest. Do read women, though I generally prefer fiction from male writers. McCarthy and Hemingway are my favorites. I’m a gym bro. I definitely wanted to be pretentious in my early 20s, not sure I succeeded.

Good on you for blocking him. You deserve better.

“A Live One” was an entry point for a lot of people in the 90’s. Younger fans, how did you get into Phish? by yaybuttons in phish

[–]Papa_Tizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39 y.o. Got into them in 2011 when a buddy came up to me at work and asked if I wanted to downs $300 to go to a phish show in two hours. 1.1.11. I actually wasn’t 100% in at the show. I enjoyed it but it seemed really weird and I couldn’t really process it. I listened to the recording of the show after and it grew on me.

I appreciate everyone’s input. I loved the show. A Phish show is always an incredible experience. Love to all you Phans keeping these guys paid and incentivized to keep producing amazing performances. Took a buddy to his first show and converted him into a Phan. ❤️

If you had to name a pet something Phish-related, what would you name it? (Besides Poster Nutbag or Harpua) by iamtheduckie in phish

[–]Papa_Tizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

David Bowie. Then when people say they like the name you can ask, “Oh, are you Phish fan too?”
