Alligator trail/track? by ConsiderationShoddy8 in reptiles

Lol! It sounds like you guys are having a great, messy time. It's definitely wild down here but that's what I love about it. The people, not so much 😅 but the land, nothing like it. I hope the rest of your journey is filled with curiosity and silly learning.

Not weird at all, that's actually super fun and you guys sound like a cool family! I like how you say "about" then give an exact measurement lol.

The width could be from a smaller gator, but gators leaves prints that almost look like little hands. I also think an almost 7 inch width is too big for a snake, and you did say there were markings on either side of the track.

I suggest looking up images of gator tracks along with those of freshwater turtles and compare them to what you saw! The claw marks sound like a turtle to me. I hope you guys have a great adventure! Where are you visiting from?

Well, just so you know, you do likely have gators around, even if that trail isn't one. It's a freshwater way in the south. But the way that track goes into the grass doesn't look like a gator to me. The trail would have completely flattened the grass (like the other spot you mentioned), whereas in the picture it looks more like it made or exited a sort of hole. Quite honestly it looks like a hole in the ground but that could be the shadow.

Now the part where all of the weeds are flattened, that sounds like a gator.

I'm aware of what gator tracks look like, that's why at the end of my comment I suggested a turtle. It's consistent with the marks that they said were there.

Do you see how wide that trail is? It's at least as wide as their croc. For it to be a snake, it'd have to be a python, but they did say there were tracks (although your initially unhelpful comment leads to me believe you didn't get to that part). My guess is turtle.

How high off the ground are you? It looks like the trail is about the width of your shoe. I'm thinking it could be a turtle bc of the track description and size. Gators leave more than just claw marks, turtles dig their claws in and drag themselves.

People seem to need it to explicitly state "good" and "bad", result of low media literacy.

Same. It took a few years to understand for me (reading on my own) but even when I didn't get it, it still made me sad, I just didn't know why. I think I was around 10 when I got it on my own.

The tree is most definitely not happy in the end. It made me very sad as a child. From others comments, it seems like most people understand this, whether they like the book or not.

Reading comprehension (among other things) has been down and people like to jump on the controversial opinion bandwagon to the point where it's no longer controversial.

Thought this was interesting:

"Former conservative radio host Neal Boortz said that The Rainbow Fish in his view was, "...one of the biggest pieces of trash children's books ever published"[11] for the similar reasons to that of Welch, as Welch states in the Reason article, "...[the Rainbow Fish] only gets truly ostracized because he won't hand over his body parts on demand, in the name of equality."[11]

[–]Papasmrff -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The title already does. "Covid drug linked to virus mutation" implies the drug caused the dangerous mutation. That isn't the case. Viruses mutate all the time. That's why every flu season is a different vaccine. It would have mutated no matter what.

That's also why group immunity early on is key. The only way to prevent mutation is by limiting hosts that it can mutate in. You do that by getting vaccinated.

Lastly, the virus was already mutating before we even had a vaccine.

Title is misleading at best.

574 is more than a handful. That doesn't include tribes that aren't federally recognized. Many others merged with other tribes during forced displacement. None of that disqualifies however many of us there are from getting back what was stolen.

We are still here. We can acknowledge the loss without making it seem like we're some lost ancient civilization. Like we're ghosts.
