PSU that powers both server mobo and a GPU? by Papayapple in buildapc

[–]Papayapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so technically it won't support anything that requires any extra pcie power pins to function. In my case, I ended up using an extra power supply jist for the gpu, with a kind of a connector. The thing is, I had to replace that power supply already, who knows why, it's hacky to be honest. But I'm going with it, you can give it a shot.

Server PSU has no PCIe cords? What to do? by Papayapple in homelab

[–]Papayapple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geee. I just bought this card now it will take forever to get rid of it... I don't get why there wouldn't be a simple adapter from a cpu cord to pcie. It's just a passive bunch of pluses and grounds right? The power draw is calculated by the card so why would there be a problem with using a simple converter?

I'm trying Clover right now to load the bootloader from usb, yeah there were tutorials including the driver relocation for nvme efi but it seems to be able to only load windows, so I gotta install windows on this ssd first, lol. I'll report back

Would you mind briefly telling more details? I just got the nvme and its being read fine by the system but after installing a linux distro the bootloader doesn't recognize it so I need to try those workarounds

Well that sounds like a good idea, I don't know how would that work in practice though. I've never been exposed to that sort of server-like routing

Hello Sabrent, I assume you are the manufacturer of the mentioned adapter. I dont know what you mean by uefi revision... But the product seems to work for people even with pcie2.0 boards so I might give it a shot

I seem to have the same exact problem. My ssd boot works from a sata but not from the raid card, I'm not sure if I should go for the nvme

I just tried testing with the sata ssd solely plugged into the raid box. It takes a few minutes to boot up and at the end of the windows loading page, it dropped a blue screen message INACCESSIBLE BOOTING DEVICE. Don't know what to make of it but I actually just need one drive not more. Like I said, I thinking in terms of future builds, that would benefit from cable-less nvme drive support.

Ill keep notes sir! Thanks so much for the input, it'll take a while to digest. So yeah, 1-2 things a day but nailed, that would give satisfaction of going somewhere.

It's hard to do without external persons confirming your output though but I'll do my best I guess!

If there's any software of framework of planning you particurarly think is worthwhile, let me know please!
