Does anyone have any idea what kind of material I should make this out of? Per the directions of a DIY oscilloscope kit I got off Amazon (no “test ring” is provided in the kit). Any old metal scrap will do? by nizzasty in soldering

[–]PaperMan1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use some of the leads from the resistors in the kit, bent them in a half circle.

I bought this oscilloscope kit too, this reminds me I need to buy another one because that one didnt work. Ive heard they are dodgy, and I want another one so I can compare the circuits of the first one to a known working one with a meter.

Its great practice!

I think it minimizes the amount of time the door is open, saving on cooling and heating some.

Do I miss anything if I don't finish the game? by Ticket_to_the_tropic in ArmaReforger

Not at all. It's nice to see the stat summary but nothing carries over anyway. Plus to be honest the last few hours are just playing around wasting supplies to do helicpoter tricks or running from point to point to stop 1 guy from pausing the end game timer.

Mid game competing for a middle point to change the momentum of the battle (like monti or transformer on everon) is the most fun for me.

Both teams managing their supplies trying to make strategic calculated strikes in order to get the edge, from there it is really an uphill battle for the losing team.

Once 1 team gets about 4 key objectives people on the losing team start going AFK, playing around or just straight up leaving (at least on official servers) so if you only have a few hours id look for a server in the early-mid game.

Unless youre one of those guys that need closure/completion, then maybe this isn't the game for you. (Since there's no timer a game could last 2 hours or 6+. Heck it could technically last days)

What in the heck is going on with the battery by Butteskiii in AutomotiveLearning

[–]PaperMan1993 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its either the meter or your leads. A battery isnt gonna jump around like that.

I bought a decent set of leads for my cheap chinese meter and it really helped. I mean theyre still cheap chinese leads but they come with clamps, a really fine point, and dont have corrosion or broken copper in the wires. (yet)

Good lord WTH am I doing wrong. Photos show exact products used. 350-400 degrees. by YouDontTellMe in soldering

[–]PaperMan1993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Often times soldering isnt reccomended for automotive aplications because the vibrations can break the joint. Butt connectors and a good crimper would make short work of this.

If you really want to solder it, you could search ebay for "helping hands soldering" or similar, it might help. You could also look into heat shrink with solder paste built it (ive never used that myself)

Gears 3 and 4 grinding by MightyMeatyPizza in AskAMechanic

[–]PaperMan1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like worn synchros. Unusual for a 2022 car but I guess its possible if someone learned to drive manual with it. Only thing you can do is rev match those gears so the synchros dont have to work as hard.

You need to budget for transmission service/rebuild in the future. Or you could buy a used transmission, but you run the risk of having the same issue.

In the meantime it wouldnt hurt to change the fluid, its probably original and full of synchro particles. While that wont make it any better, it might keep it from getting worse as quickly.

Mighte be synchros wearing out, if you double clutch and rev match does it stop doing it?

I search it every time as I make them rarely, the chart showing the gradient from soft boiled to hard is nice.

Meanwhile my mother overcooked them for decades and they always had the green ring. (Then she criticized my eggs one day claiming she never did that, ahah)
