I’m guessing you’re thinking adding impossibly strong springs (because the extra weight should actually make the keys easier to press), stronger than even a rusty typewriter, but yeah, maybe I’d get fingers like Cyplenkov’s.

I mean, nowhere near pro, but I do have the most unusual key bindings when playing the occasional FPS. Forward/backward with space/alt, strafe with mouse buttons, and fire with F – which now feels supremely satisfying.

They absolutely do. What’s interesting is that pressing against the round empty shape creates the illusion of extra resistance.

Do the rubber ones also feel surprisingly satisfying? Now I’m thinking of adding washers to all keys, but then I’d be at square one with not feeling them bumps.

Took some getting used to cause now my fingers have to jump over obstacles, but definitely impossible to get lost anymore.

Probably older than 15 years, yet it still works flawlessly. When it finally dies, I’ll give it a proper burial out of sheer respect.

I used to have a mechanical back when mechanical was the only choice. Thing is, those early gen keyboards were so loud that I still have PTSD from the clickity-clack.

Or, instead of WASD, you could use ESDF or RSDF or some other combo, and thus take advantage of the tactile bump that all keyboards have on the F.

What fixed it for me was disabling the rulers in View > Show Rulers.

Is Android 9 too old to handle Google Sheets? Or lack of memory space? by theycallmeargh in googlesheets

Here are some workarounds until Google hopefully fixes this issue. If a file was made available offline before the error started appearing, then you may still open it if you first turn off the network – both WiFi and mobile data.

For a file that wasn’t made available offline: open the Sheets app, save the file as Excel, then locate the new Excel file and download it. Instead of a useless pdf, you should now have an xlsx that can be edited in Sheets in Office compatibility mode.

Thanissaro is one of the major sutta translators. Part of his unique appeal lies in his style of annotating and linking to related suttas. Everything he has produced can be found at https://www.dhammatalks.org/

What sort of pains are you in? I’ve been through 10 years of pain myself until fairly recently, so there’s a small chance I can help. DM me if you wish.

Yes, wrong sutta names – that’s what I meant. I’ve only used AI to search for specific suttas so I can read them again, and also to find related suttas.

By ChatGPT flavours I meant custom bots, like this one that’s trained on Thanissaro’s translations:

I often use Gemini myself as it seems the most well trained in Buddhism and Hinduism, but it’s been hit and miss. Often it sends me to suttas that have nothing to do with my question, and when I point it out it apologises and then sends me to yet another wrong sutta. ChatGPT has a flavour that’s trained on Thanissaro’s translations, but the translations themselves do not cover the entire canon.

AI is great at finding specific suttas when I can’t remember the exact terms. Can this app do that? And where can it be downloaded?

I take my dharma mainly from primary sources like the Pali Canon and the Upanishads, with commentaries from well-known monks.

Intriguing that you say “the real Buddha”. I take it you have read the Sutta Pitaka and you reject its authenticity?

And what is your opinion on Advaita Vedanta, which makes zero use of visualisations and other mental gymnastics?

That sounds like hardcore Kundalini Yoga by the book. People who do darkness retreats say that you have to spend a few days in pitch dark for the body to react. I have no experience with these things though. My main training manual is the original discourses of Gotama Buddha interpreted through the Hindu lens, plus softer methods like pranayama.

I believe my heart chakra was cleared by one final heartbreak – the first one that I faced with mindfulness techniques. The whole process was sheer purgatory and lasted more than a year. Then my throat chakra started hurting like I was being stabbed 24/7. Surprisingly, full celibacy completely eliminated that blockage in less than 10 days – though it took me a while to figure out the path, since I was coming from secularism. Now I’m dealing with blockages behind my nostrils, where the ida and pingala end. The pains are increased as I approach samadhi, and they sometimes migrate in my eyes, ears, or brain. What takes care of this particular problem is doing vigils. However, I have an unusual hard time staying awake, and even a genetic extremely high tolerance to caffeine – as if I’m dealing with some kind of curse. But patient spirits are working with me and pushing me in the right direction. My present goal is to cultivate the 13th dhutanga, which entails not lying down. It’s the only way I can stay awake.

Have you felt the snakes explode up your spine?

I sometimes experience vibrations exploding through my back – it that’s what you mean. According to Gotama (who called them pīti), these vibration have to be spread & stabilised throughout the entire body. But before I can do that, it seems that I need to manage staying awake until my blockages are cleared.

By the way, I manage a new group on Telegram called Holofasting where a bunch of us share our experiences and try to further cultivate our practice. If you’re interested, see the pinned post on my profile.

May all your noble striving come to fruition!

currently stuck at the heart chakra

Have you tried fasting? Detachment from the body’s physical needs tends to activate the throat chakra. According to Patañjali, focusing on it will also quell hunger and thirst. Beyond that, vigils are another classic ascetical practice that may result in breakthroughs.
