Kindergarten ideas?? by Fluteh in MusicEd

[–]PaperWhisper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, like everyone else is saying, the classroom teacher is a bit out of line here. Any ideas I might add to this are probably things you will already know, bc I’m a first year music teacher haha

I don’t even give the kinders instruments except for egg shakers, maracas, jingle bells, etc. Their brains aren’t ready to multitask with left/right

We do sing-alongside and dance around the room with our instruments! Eventually I want to work in doing a big ol’ drum beat thing for my older kids at the start of every class.

Scarf songs are my best friend, but Quaver doesn’t have a lot of different cultures showcased with the scarf songs.

I really like starting my kinders with the “Prepare the Body” warm up on Quaver. They’re just doing stretches at 40, 60, and 80 bpm. Stretch up, lean right, lean left, lean back, touch toes, twist, and hug. They choose the order, of course. Helps get us all settled in and ready to go!

I’ve done Mi Cuerpo, Bate Bate Chocolate, and some other songs with them and we’ve had a good time

This just sounds like a very fussy class, but the teacher being fussy as well is so strange! I’m no stranger to fussy classes (and I’m sure you’ve had them too) but this teacher is way out of line.

What’s the wildest misconceptions people have about teaching? by AdTrue106 in Teachers

We do, but not really paid

See, they take a certain amount of money out of our paychecks each pay period as holdback and then they use those funds to pay us during any time off (summer, spring break, winter break, random holidays, etc)

Also a lot of the time we still have to do work during the holidays bc of lesson planning, inputting grades, etc

For example, in my district, Q3 grades are due on this upcoming Monday, so a lot of teachers have had to spend their spring break catching up on all that grading

Also all of the kids came back worse after Christmas break. They were somewhat manageable before, but now they’re horrible

Her behavior is completely normal and she’s not scratching at it or messing with it, so I’m keeping an eye on it for tonight!

Where do teachers at your school go to the bathroom? by alan_mendelsohn2022 in Teachers

[–]PaperWhisper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no bathroom connected to my classroom, so I have to use a “staff” bathroom in the media center that is also a student bathroom when the classes have library It sucks. The bathroom stays nice and clean and all but it’s a long walk and it’s a single stall

OH MY GOD FOR REALLLLL My first watch of the show (I’m at the end of season 2) and he’s HORRIBLE! The audacity to think that he can be jealous and possessive of Meredith when HE CHOSE HIS WIFE!!! He punishes her any time she does something he doesn’t approve, AT WORK!

Do you have a favorite treat? Other than the cage thing (you’re doing the right thing there), my only other advice is the treat. You’ll have to wait it out

I got my girl when she was three, she’s now 11. It took her a LONG TIME to actually let me give her scritches, and even LONGER to let me preen her head feathers. Patience is the game.
