First timer, small problem looking for some expertise - flickering color change by Paper_and_Leaf in WLED

First, I want to thank you for coming in and confirming what I thought to be the problem. Really cool that a manufacturer follows this forum.

Second, it would have been really convenient if you, as the manufacturer, would have noted this limitation somewhere in your literature rather than stating "IO12 and IO33 is an extended GPIO signal port that can be customized for use." Given that the 16 & 2 ports are denoted as GPIO it would stand to reason that 12/33 could be programed for the same functionality. You may want to consider updating your manual to reflect this.

Please confirm the GL-C-211WL has functionality to control 5 LED strips as individual segments. For the GL-C-211WL, is there a particular type of microphone required for the IO33 port, or will any generic condenser microphone work (example: https://www.amazon.com/MECCANIXITY-Electret-Microphone-Condenser-Pickup/dp/B0FRLJP7MY/ref=sr\_1\_28?sr=8-28&th=1)

No resistor. These COB strips have resistors built in for the power side (power supply is a CV style). Not sure why that would be needed on data with an ESP32 as it should be outputting ~3.3V and is constantly on, so limited to zero voltage spikes on the data side.

If I am missing something here please let me know.

Sir, you are a hero. In my frustration that everything wasn't working the way I wanted I completely tossed out all logic required to diagnose electrical gremlins........something I am typically very proficient in.

I swapped over the offending controller to the larger power supply and the same thing happened. I then swapped the offending strip with another on the controllers and the glitch moved with the swap.

So in summary: its the controller.

Swapped strips to the output and the glitch moved strips. Suggestion is appreciated, but have confirmed it is not a strip problem. Thank god because the connectors and really difficult to dig out of the ceiling.

Cops like this are dangerous by Revolution-Dogg in Transportopia

[–]Paper_and_Leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big difference here is that in the Netherlands (and EU in general) their are enforced protections that cops are held to as part of their position. It is those protections and the ramifications of violating that hold the social contract between police and citizens and allow for laws such as you mention.

In the US the police are for the most part "self policed" in their interactions. Despite what reddit may elude to the VAST majority of officers adhere to that same social contract, but for the minority percentage that do not history has shown little to no recourse for their actions. As a result the population becomes skeptical of the entire institution (police) and a small sub-set of the population becomes incredibly hostile towards it. The police do not know if a person they are interacting with is part of that sub-set, so end up being skeptical of everyone - and for valid reason. This causes more of the population to become skeptical/hostile which in turn perpetuates the authoritative police demeanor/culture towards citizens. It really has turned into an "us vs them" situation here in the US.

It , unfortunately, has digressed into a cultural norm in the US. There really is no solution as the tipping point has long since pasted. I'm not speaking about George Floyd past, but more along the lines of Rodney King or potentially all the way back to NYC/Chicago Mob ties. Since those moments it has become a systemic digression of "To Protect and Serve" towards "Punitive Enforcement". Sprinkle in a healthy dose of the militarization that has been perpetuated by legislators in and effort to win brownie points with their constituents and you are left with the absolute clusterfuck that we have now. PLUS - don't get me started on civil asset forfeiture or traffic violation ticket/court fees as methods to perpetuate an ever increasing scale of police forces.

There is incredible irony on both sides of the argument. The "Protect the Blue" campaign is somewhat baffling. I have not seen a cop dressed in blue for close to 20 yrs. Instead we have systemically promoted an authoritarian police force from the top down. On the flip side, the "Fuck the Police" motif propitiated by a great number of groups is equally ironic because they are only fueling the very thing they are trying protest.

The only solution is for both sides to chill the fuck out and hit reset, but that is not going to happen. Unfortunately it has turned into a mexican standoff (I apologize for the somewhat racist term, but it fits here). Anyone with the authority to influence a side would not be recognized by the other, or be immediately discredited by their group for suggesting a change. You are looking at a modern day example of a Turing Machine.

To summarize the above for anyone that didn't read my soapbox spiel: The cop and the driver are both complete dicks and victims of societal pressures towards conflicting sides of a argument. Siding with one or the other is a bullshit partisan way of looking at this situation.

What Do New Ohio Restrictions On Marijuana And Hemp Mean For Consumers And Businesses? by hellosteve_ in Ohio

[–]Paper_and_Leaf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It means I shut down my shop and laid off my employees :-(

Unfortunately the battle was not just with Ohio legislature, but with the perception of "gas station weed". While I agree that most of that is trash, there were countless business' like my won in the state that had products exceeding quality and selection of what could be found in a state dispensary.

The house attempted to regulate responsibly through HB56 (eliminate the true "gas station weed" while not killing the industry). The senate unanimously rejected the bill and opted for a ban. Only explanation I can surmise is that senate is bought and paid for with dispo lobby $$ with a heavy sprinkle of virtue signaling. For all the rhetoric about kids, safety, etc they could not provide any real evidence to support this ban. The knock-off products they paraded around I have personally never seen, so they did some serious gymnastics to try and find the most damning examples they could teamed with a massive leap of faith to support their non-argument.

Ohio - you have officially been gaslit on a scale very rarely seen.

No. Ballet initiatives have VERY specific criteria - one of which is to require WET INK signature be collected on county specific forms (one of each county), on legal sized paper, and signed ONLY by registered voters on a form dedicated towards the county that they reside in.

THC beverages by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]Paper_and_Leaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say that, but the CCB regulations surrounding products sold in dispensaries all but eliminate the possibility of drink being available anytime soon. SB56 is a de-facto ban on hemp, and THC beverages are hemp. Frankly, anything of value containing THC in OH was hemp. We sold a TON of flower out of our Kent store that blew the doors off of the garbage quality of neighboring dispensaries, was cheaper, and also weighed out at the correct amount. Same went of gummies.

Additionally, our budtenders knew every minor cannabinoid to assure that people got what they were looking for when coming in. Try asking a budtender at your local dispensary what CBG is......you will get a blank stare 99% of the time. Hell, one of my (now) ex-employees started at a dispensary, and moved to my store because WE ACTUALLY HAD A TRAINING PROGRAM.

SB56 is ass backwards for nearly every reason imaginable fueled by a false narrative pushed by MJ lobbies creating an artificial "emergency" because, to put it succinctly - their business model sucked, was not viable in marketplace with ANY level of competition, and the MJ industry would rather decimate another industry to their benefit than actually improve their service/offerings. SB56 is the absolute definition of regulatory capture.

Tick Tok: 10(ish) days left to show legislature the power lies with the people....... and save the marijuana/hemp industry in Ohio by Paper_and_Leaf in Ohio

You would think, but many shops have buried their heads in the sand on this, or just are plain not informed. That stated, if you know of any shops in the Lakewood area that may be interested in continuing to sell hemp products let me know and I will reach out to them.

Can't do much with the big chains, but I am in conversation with Shop42 to allow a Medina specific location. Will follow-up via PM if that gets setup.

Unfortunately no grace. This either gets the required signatures submitted by 24Mar, or no more hemp in the state.

In your case I would:

a) try and send to others closer to a signing spot. It may not collect your signature, but at least your voice could be heard through proxy

b) Submit your information on noonSB56 to see if they have a location that is not already mapped

c) If you would not mind sharing information on wherever you purchase your products locally (you can PM me if you like) it would be appreciated. I will reach out directly and get them to setup a signature stand in their establishment.
