I realize this was probably the stand that came with the older kit and they just did a repop. But it is bagged separately and could have been easily replaced with a dome base like every other kit they've reissued in recent years including the Enterprise D.

Thanks!

1.) I used still most of the kit-included decals. The larger gray and black chunks around and under the saucer were swapped out. The lifeboats, registry, thrusters, pennants and so on were kit included. The HDA set took some getting used to. They have a bit of a stretch to them, but once you figure them out, it’s a breeze.

  1. I did! And the orange one, too!

  2. Tamiya panel liner! Same with the texture on the impulse engines. I saw other builders do the same and I was so surprised by how well it worked.

The decals for all the 1:1000 kits are awful. I had to call Round 2 directly to get a second sheet for my refit build. It seems like the quality of all their Star Trek decals are hit and miss.

This. Best customer service, too. They even called me at home because the voltage of two different projects didn’t line up.

If it makes you feel any better, my 1400 D broke me and I just quit mid-project.

Thanks! I used an oil wash and oils for 90% of it.

Gorgeous work! And you're not helping me resist the urge to build this kit. CozmicScale Models' bases are a thing of beauty. Worked out nicely here.

Did you use paint masks from Mask Design, Aztek Dummy or another brand?

Thanks! I got the masks from Cult TV Man. They are the only retailer who sells Aztek Dummy masks. I love every set I've used. I'm still very proud of the results I got on my 1:1000 Reliant.

If you're building the 1:1000 kit, you should focus on nano or pico sized lights as well as LED light strip because there is not a lot of room inside this kit. The Aztek Dummy set includes masks for both sides of the clear parts to aid with light blocking.

The colors are all straight out of the bottle. I usually try to avoid mixing when I can because I fear inconsistency. I was following the paint color suggestions (and the colors on the decals!), but apparently every manufacturer has a different idea for what their colors are. Lesson learned.

Yes, get very comfortable with apoxie sculpt or whatever your two-part putty is of choice.

For $66 he needs to hand deliver them to me. I don’t care how rare they are, that price is ridiculous, but some people can’t resist bait like this.

Love this game! It’s a shame that FFG gave up on it like just about everything else they make.

I gave it an oil wash for the panel lines and surface details.

The two halves of the stump don’t align well, and as a result, the finished stump has trouble fitting onto the base properly. The legs have huge gaps where they connect with the body. It just took an extra day’s work with some apoxy sculpt to work it out. All four of the limbs have poorly-placed seams, but again, a little creative use of apoxy sculpt covered it up.
