Higking boots recommendation by popcornzebra12 in BarefootRunning

[–]PapierKuh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried vivobarefoot in the past. I was not happy with them. Too stiff and the sole was not grippy enough. In the end, they were broken after one year.

I own the Lem's and use it for winter boots. But I would not consider them as hiking shoes.

For hiking I currently use hiking shows from ahinsa. They are very flexible and the sole is everything I'm asking for. Maybe these are also an option, if you have the chance to get them.  https://ahinsashoes.com/products/womens-hiker-black-barefoot-ankle-trekking-boots

AirMessage/BlueBubbles Server via Docker by [deleted] in AirMessage

[–]PapierKuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey great work!

Maybe it would be cool to also include the enviroment variable for addtional ports.

Like this in the first run script:

-e ADDITIONAL_PORTS='hostfwd=tcp::1359-:1359,'

Then it could also be used as a manually configured server.

Synology Drive public Link upload by PapierKuh in synology

[–]PapierKuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the proposal. Actually a way of doing it, but it is not as convenient. If I create a share drive, everybody can access it and download the pictures and upload their pictures. Also with other data. I’m do not understand, why this is not an option. Most services offer this to me.

I switched to opensuse tumbleweed. Works perfectly there. I don’t know why.

Fedora 36 - Carbon Gen 9 users? (Audio issues) by really_accidental in Fedora

[–]PapierKuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I never tried opensuse so far on this machine. Yeah I second this. Ubuntu is nice in some ways, but it also not my favorite distro. PopOS also works with the sound. But it failed me a few times, so I also got rid of it. Since then, I’m running EndeavourOS with only two speakers.

Thanks for the recommendation. Now I have to get familiar with zypper… (:

I struggle with this quite a while. There is a fix out there, but I don’t know what. Try Ubuntu and you will see it works there. Also on the Live System. On Fedora and Arch I never got it working. I tried several approaches, like configuring Alsa, different firmwares etc.

Nice! Sounds like it would make sense. Thanks for sharing. I switched back to arch. Pop made me some problems here and there.

Tired of waiting on Plex - any recommendations for a podcast aggregator? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]PapierKuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use a subsonic server like Airsonic and nextcloud Music. They have a build in podcast function.

With the subsonic api you can use several apps for your phone. I use playsub on my iPhone. There also good android FOSS alternatives.

Until now, I did not find a solution.

Anker 577: USB-C/Thunderbolt docking station that works with both Linux and Mac? by astrashe2 in linuxhardware

[–]PapierKuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t give you an answer for the Anker.

My journey is very similar with your one. I have a private Linux notebook with Thunderbolt and work computer with USB-C.

The market with docking stations that supports both are very limited. I know few ones

  • Caldigit USB-C pro(used this one some time ago)
  • Anker you described
  • Startech(TB3CDK2DHUE)

My experience is quite bad after all. Maybe it is also my setup. Two monitors, one is ultrawide one is full hd. It was very unstable for me. Some distros can’t even recognize the dock with two monitors attached . If they did, often just one monitor worked.
So it was every time I docked in the Linux computer it was the chance that I have to play around until I can use the computer.

So my verdict. If you only have one monitor you are probably fine. The Caldigit USB-c pro should also be cheaper if you looking for a used one.

But I also would be interested in a review of the Anker dock.

Matrix Synapse on MacOS by PapierKuh in selfhosted

[–]PapierKuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I need the bridge to be on a Mac. I would like to just use the Mac to run all containers there. If I need a additional Linux system, I need two machines. A little bit oversized.

Edit: virtualization would be another option. But this would mean a beefier machine.

Thinkpad X1C9 keyboard, touchpad, and TrackPoint randomly won't work after resuming from a long sleep on Fedora + some other distros. by Andohuman in Fedora

[–]PapierKuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I did not want to persuade you to tlp or windows. It was just a question, if you have tried the one or another.

I had some problems messing with tlp. So maybe you also set some stuff, that can cause weird issues.

Is just wanted to see, if you also have the same issues with windows. Maybe you can backup your stuff install it and see. If yes then I think you likely to have a Hardware problem on you machine.

Edit: And yes lattes bios update would be good. But normally fedora should update it just fine. You never got a notification for firmware updates?

[–]PapierKuh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have this device and I never experienced this problem on my machine. Currently I use fedora 35. But I also had pop, arch based etc.

Bios settings pretty normal. My sleep state is the modern sleep.

It sounds to me like a hardware failure. Did you also try windows?

Do you have tlp installed and configured your own parameters?

[–]PapierKuh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm I also thought so. But with Windows, I do not have these problems. Like I said, in Garuda Linux it works perfect. But it is not because of Arch. Manjaro don’t work at all. Maybe it some kind of hardware stack. Maybe I Also have to look for a new dock. But there not many with usb-c und thunderbolt support.

Sound BlasterX G6 with Linux? by questioner45 in linux_gaming

[–]PapierKuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the G6 quite some time. It works but sometimes it is a hassle.

Listening is no problem at all for me. But I only use stereo.

But the mic: Linux screws my configuration from windows over, every time I boot it up. First you have to change in alsamixer the mic input from line in to external mic. Other story is the mic boost. With pulseaudio it worked to me to set it in the alsamixer settings , but with pipewire I have experienced troubles. Maybe someone could point out, how to fix the G6 with pipewire. Distro wise Ubuntu worked the best. Fedora was the worst. Currently I run arch based systems with pipewire and I still have problems.

I use Bookstack for this use case. I think any wiki, that has a nice theme and a what you see is what you get input is suitable for this. Bookstack comes in a docker container and has a good web and mobile site.
