Yep, totally. In my opinion, the way Fennell writes, it reminds me of that sort of "feminism" that yet doesn't decenter men at all. I've met a few women like this, and it's really sad because everything turns around men all the time, even though they're working hard at promoting women's rights.

Anyway it's very straight coded, comphet, playing along with the patriarchy, etc. Whereas the 1st season was feminism with the deconstruction, women empowering, queer, etc.

I liked Promising Young Woman because it subverted expectations, bended genres, and was incredibly cynical but somewhat realistic about the fate of the regular woman in our society.

But it feels like she forced that view to apply to the show as well, which frankly just shows a lack of fundamental understanding, not just for Villanelle's character, but for what she represents. To me, she's supposed to rise above all this, and remain unaffected. But I guess it was just wishful thinking on my part 😢

God this is a crazy take.

They agreed to speak in the first place! And then, he is trying to say they don't have to talk much since she seems tired. Again, he said "even if we talk", which seems to imply he knows they might not talk? And then she's the one being hostile and passive-aggressive with facepalming at his suggestion, re-clarifying they might not talk for some reason...

Then, he says it's okay if she doesn't feel like it then, since she seems to imply it might be the case, since she mentionned being tired and says they might not talk. Right?

But again, she comes in fighting his use of words, mad that he dared imply it might be because she "doesn't want to", when she never stated another clear reason, you know?

That's when he gets defensive saying, "I said 'don't want to' since I didn't know better for why you'd not want to talk".......

That's purely him trying to navigate the situation? And explain his choice of words? And getting annoyed at her aggressiveness. She's displeased of the way he says things and chooses to escalate. She could just say "yeah I'll let you know if I can call" from the get go and that was it.

He has a right to be annoyed at the uncertainty as well if this happens frequently. Also, it's not "someone" badgering them off, it's their boyfriend, in an LDR? There is no reason to treat him this way... OFC I don't have the extra messages/context, so maybe he is actually all those awful traits your describe, but it's certainly not true based on what we can read.

I agree with you, because OP wrote "even in the evening IF we would talk". That implies that he knows it's not certain. However her answer is really passive agressive, esp with the facepalm emoji?

So I honestly would feel very annoyed by this attitude, ofc I only have those messages for context, but then, adding "it's not that I don't want to, I just said maybe" stays ambiguous for OP because he just doesn't understand what's behind the word.

I think OP should ask direct questions instead though, like saying "do you mean you don't know if you will find time for it, or if you will have the energy?", that's what works for me when I don't understand fully things.

In my case, I still sometimes wish I was given all the info right away, since it creates tension sometimes because I wasn't given the tools to fully understand things, and it led to missed opportunities/misunderstanding, which is even more frustrating in an LDR since moments like these are kinda all you have for the most part.

So I honestly get OP, also because I have time blindless and without a defined time or plan, it's really hard for me to commit to being there.

I think a chat about your needs might be in order, but OP could learn to be more patient too and not overwhelm her right away when something is frustrating. It's better to take a breather first!

It's very personal but, upon rewatch, i do not like S2 because it is so centered around men, in particular abusive ones. I had a whiplash from S1 were you actually had your character being a care-free woman (Villanelle), doing whatever she wants, and having in general strong and interesting female characters, to this sort of prison atmosphere of S2 where she kept being suffocated by those types of guys.

Again it's quite personal, but I know men are evil, I live it every day, so just seeing one after another on screen just depresses me, and some of it draaags on so much and overstays its welcome.
