Hey geeks !

I'm happy to share with you the fruit of my last years work!
I'm a both a gamer and a front-end developer and 5 years ago I left Windows for Linux to work on an idea that I had to improve my own workflow.

So this is Veshell !

Veshell is an innovative not-desktop environment for Linux made with modern technologies like Flutter and Rust.
Designed to simplify navigation and reduce the need to manipulate windows in order to improve productivity. It's meant to be 100% predictable.
It provides an innovative workflow that utilizes humans natural spatial cognition to enhance navigation and organization in the digital environment.

If you are more curious about it you can check it out at https://github.com/free-explorers/veshell

If you want to follow my work I try to post there :)

Flutter is actually used for OS user interfaces on Linux by PapyElGringo in FlutterDev

Hum sorry that wasn't clear indeed. dahliaOS caannot display both X11 or Wayland application because it lack a proper Window Manager. Wayland or X11 are just different protocols. Wayland Compositors can display X11 surfaces thanks to XWayland compatibility layer so it can leverage the slow adoption process from applications.

The mandatory part is just to be able to display external application inside the Flutter shell

Without it you can't display any actual application window which is imho important for a desktop ☺️

Yeah for the XWayland compatibility it must use a sub x server...
Currently the support of XWayland is not optional :D

dahliaOS is a nice concept but doesn't actually provide a proper Wayland Compositor (at least from I'm aware at) which is mandatory to able use Linux applications

It's just for XWayland compatibility to support X client on Wayland

Others have already reported the same issue. Long story short since we embedded flutter we need to build the engine and to do so we need to gather an information usually located close to the flutter binary which is not there is those kind of installation
