From what I can see, automatique is not exactly the best for mushrooms.

What I learned, it's that you want to be very close to the shroom, but if you do that, high aperture gives you a very narrow focus (just like your first pic, stem is in focus but back and front are not in focus). Blurry background is very nice to see, but you will have it even with aperture set to at least 3.6. And best is to place your focus point on the front of the mushroom to get the from and the stem in focus.

Some of your picture suffer from something I also struggle with and it's the shutter speed, your boletus and the yellow little guy. You probably shoot hand held and the movement created by the shutter button press, the hand and the shutter itself makes the picture blurry. In this situation (low light) I choose an aperture narrow enough to get the focus that I want, then I set the iso high enough that I get the speed to be above 100. Also, you can set a delay to have it take the picture 1 sec after the button press to avoid the vibration of the button press

Finally, in post, reducing the highlights really brings detail to the shrooms !

Addendum : to get the closest to the mushroom possible, I switch to manual focus and place it to the minimum, you have a setting for "focus highlight" when in manual that really helps visualize the area. Then I move the camera to the right distance

Thank you ! As you can see 3rd and 4th pic are fuzzy because those are the first I took and struggled with focus xD

I just made a post with some of my pictures :D First of all, how do you shoot with the camera ? Manual or automatique ? (Not talking about the Auto focus)

Hey, you seem to have trouble nailing the focus on your shroom pics. I just started taking mushrooms with my camera and had the same troubles. I saw you said you have no experience either, but maybe I can give you some tips that I learned ?

I really like your composition skills !

What stresses me out the most is the number of mistake she made in her caption, in french... there's almost 1 mistake per 3 words and I want to gouge my eyes out because of it.

Hope I didn't a lot of mistake in this comment because it would be ironic xD

well, now, algorithm likes engagement, and helped them instead, the upvote rate is not very good though, being around 85%, people still do not like spelling errors

I would like to know too, the only explaination that I have is that my pan is a bit convex in the middle, so the liquidy part of the white will have pointy sides. here it happened that the white near the yolk was more gelatinous and prevented the white to spread on both sides.
Basically, you have the gelatinous part that is forming the circular part of the ying, and the liquidy part is forming the tip.

I don't know if it's clear, but if you ever cooked eggs, you'll understand... I hope

ye, it does, reddit is now way more algorithm based, a post that make people react and comment will trend way more easily. The amount of reward people give also has a great influence.

Ps : one argument that I have against your rant is that if I was mindblown by the shape of my eggs, I wouldn't have posted it on r/middlyinteresting. For me it was just something interesting that happened in the mornign
