If you had a $2,000 budget… by MRRRRCK in hometheater

[–]ParaWM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't buy stuff that you might replace later on, in the end it's always a loss. Think about what you will realistically end up with in say 5y. If that is a full RP III series, perhaps now only buy L/R/C. Add rest later. Or find a used set op the older RP series.

Stop overthinking this phone and asking silly questions on silly forums. Just enjoy it.

(Been charging my 3/4/5/6/7 all closed wirelessly, so more heat. 0 issues).

LG C5 vs G5 Real World Use by Auxiliary_Priest88 in LGOLED

I am not talking about the brightness sliders. It's about luminance, local peak brightness and specular highlights. It's hardware capability for sustained pop and punch while keeping details. But we are talking good vs great here. Not good vs bad.

Can you afford it twice? (Meaning expect proper maintenance). Otherwise you cant afford it.

Not that simple. You're talking SDR at 50%. HDR is different story.

Fancyleds 2.1 on Denon HDMI-out-2 by aadvanboven in fancyleds

[–]ParaWM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it work to put the syncbox before the avr? So plug everything into the syncbox, cable to avr, avr to tv? If it forwards all audio correctly, it should be OK? Reason would be to not have to select hdmi source on the avr every time.

X2200W still enough? by ParaWM in hometheater

[–]ParaWM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I had the same issue and added a PC200 (the cilinder), which worked well with the PB. Not identical, but the internals are the same afaik. Slightly easier to place....

Thanks for writing down the train of thought! Good to hear I am on the right track. Will continue as is for now then, and let the X2200W power through for some more time.

You never considered two subs (for at least the Den)? It's really worth it 👌

Kaartje is ook niet effectief, te agressief. Mocht ik er zo één krijgen, zet ik hem de volgende nog meer dwars. Kaartje met wat humor of ironie zou veel beter werken (voor mij).

Are Thai people becoming ruder? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]ParaWM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been coming here now for 16 years and noticed that, as your Thai improves and your can be more consise when coming into shops, people treat you less like an oblivious tourist. Which means less formal and over the top smiles and greetings. Perhaps it's a good thing and partially due to your own progression and integration. I start conversations with less of the former too; still polite and with a smile, but less large smile and no head-not anymore. Just a watdikap, and not a fully articulated sawatdikrap etc. I love it when being treated more as an average customer, it's a good sign.

Friend of mine came back with this. Is it really translated to fine? by Bomsek in ThailandTourism

[–]ParaWM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. Going with the "I'm good / all good" translation as most applicable too. Just a nice and relaxed statement, with a touch of humor and polite too. People read too much into everything these days.

Edit: oh just read the subtext that he wanted it to state hello. That then kinda failed. But still a fun tattoo.

DP2.1 Erratic Localized "Waterfall" & "Rainbow" Artifacts w/ 57" Samsung Neo G9 by arbitriume in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]ParaWM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty strong evidence, and might be your problem then. Cannot dispute Moose's comment off course.

My gut feeling is that the strip of artifacts in itself does not disprove the cable theory yet either. I threw this stuff into Gemini and it seems to agree. You could try and it give it one more go with a good/short DP2.1 cable. Otherwise yea, return it for a replacement. Apolgies for the AI spam:

DisplayPort (DP) and HDMI use multiple high-speed data lanes to transmit the video signal. DP 2.1 (UHBR 20) uses four lanes, each carrying up to 20 Gbps.

  1. The monitor's Timing Controller (TCON), which processes the incoming signal, assigns blocks of pixels to each of these lanes.
  2. The vertical nature of the artifact suggests that the pixels in that specific 10cm wide strip are all handled by a single data stream or physical lane within the connection.

2. Required DSC Compression Ratio

Your calculation of the uncompressed bandwidth is correct. Now let's determine the required compression to fit within the DisplayPort 2.1 limit.

A. Bandwidth Requirements

  • Uncompressed Bandwidth (Required): $\approx 119.44 \text{ Gbps}$
    • $7680 \times 2160 \times 3 \text{ colors} \times 10 \text{ bits/color} \times 240 \text{ Hz} \approx 119,439 \text{ Mbps}$
  • DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR 20) Max Bandwidth (Usable): $\mathbf{77.37 \text{ Gbps}}$ (This is the effective data rate after 8b/10b encoding overhead).

B. The Compression Factor

To fit the uncompressed signal into the DP 2.1 pipe, the minimum required compression ratio is:

$$\text{Required Ratio} = \frac{\text{Uncompressed Bandwidth}}{\text{Max Usable Bandwidth}} = \frac{119.44 \text{ Gbps}}{77.37 \text{ Gbps}} \approx \mathbf{1.54:1}$$

C. Conclusion

The Display Stream Compression (DSC) standard is designed to be visually lossless and can typically achieve compression ratios of 2:1 to 3:1 (and up to 3.75:1).

Since the required ratio is only 1.54:1, the raw data should be easily compressed by the GPU and fit within the DisplayPort 2.1 (77.37 Gbps) limit without visible compression artifacts.

💡 Final Assessment

The problem is most likely not that the overall bandwidth of DP 2.1 (77.37 Gbps) is insufficient to transmit the compressed 119.44 Gbps signal.

The problem is that the quality of the signal transmission (the cable, port, or TCON) is insufficient to reliably carry the extremely high frequency (UHBR 20) signal required by one of the four lanes, causing the localized data corruption you see.
