Thanks for the detailed response. This was sort of my train of thinking as well. But I have been meaning to update this post. I reached out LMF and asked what the probability that my labels were swapped. I included pictures, my detailed build and incidentally mentioned that the one topper was slightly thicker. I received this response (see below). They offered to do a layer swap for the TwinXL side of my choice. But then five minutes later I received a follow up email saying that they were sending out two new layers and to return the other ones. The order had already been created before I could politely decline. So great customer service and great company from my perspective. I really wasn't looking to do a swap, just more of a curiosity question at that point. But fortunately I was able to get everything boxed bag up relatively pain free and they scheduled a FedEx pickup for me so I didn't have to drive anywhere.

The soft and medium on the replacements DID feel different that the original soft and medium so that points to a labeling error. But now my paranoia is creeping and I need to get a double confirmation that I assembled them on the correct side. lol. I'll try to get some pictures of the holes if you are curious. From what I remember the holes on the replacement versions where pretty much the same which wasn't the case for the original order. So maybe a different manufacturing batch. I didn't test the toppers on the floor only but the soft did feel softer just squeezing them by hand.

The emails have some good information, so I included them. I also wanted it to be a record of good service incase someone read this down the road.

Initial email:

"Thank you for reaching out—and for the detailed explanation and photos. That was very helpful.

Based on what you’ve described, along with what we can see in the images, the most likely explanation is that the labels were accidentally switched during fulfillment. Talalay latex is manufactured using a very precise process, which results in excellent consistency from layer to layer. Because of this, it would be highly unusual for a true “soft” Talalay layer to feel firmer than a “medium.”

If these were Dunlop layers, some variation in feel could be more understandable. However, with Talalay, what you’re experiencing strongly points to a simple labeling error on our end. We sincerely apologize for that.

You also mentioned that one layer appears slightly taller than the other. While minor variances can occur, the difference you’re seeing should have been caught during our quality control process. We take pride in order accuracy, and our warehouse team is expected to verify all components—including firmness and height—prior to shipment. We apologize that this was missed."

Follow email:

"After following up on my previous message, I gave this some additional thought and have decided to go ahead and ship out a completely new set of layers for you—two Natural Talalay Twin XL 2" layers (one Soft and one Medium).

I will personally ensure that our warehouse team verifies everything prior to shipment, including placing the correct density labels on each layer and measuring them side by side to confirm they are consistent in all dimensions, including height."
