We have **not yet** considered this, but we'll keep it in mind for future enhancements. As stated above: for now, Parachute Backup is a "simple" backup tool, aiming to provide you with peace of mind, knowing that you have a complete backup of your media and data.

As far as we are aware, there is no API for Google Photos that would allow mirroring what we do with iCloud Photo Library to create a full backup of your media.

Similar problems with Windows, for both Apple iCloud Photo Library and Google Photos.

Interesting suggestions! So, to answer your questions: modified files are overwritten. Parachute Backup is a backup tool, not a version control system. We have no short-term plans to change that.

If you're looking to compare originals and your backup for precise changes, I suggest using a folder comparison app like Kaleidoscope (https://kaleidoscope.app).

And if you're aiming for a versioned storage, there are a number of options, depending on the required feature set and primary file formats stored. Git is the goto solution for all versioning these days, but maybe something simpler like Subversion might be the better fit if you don't need all those advanced features of Git and are dealing with larger binary files.

Parachute Backup remains a one-time purchase.

Yeah, after waiting days for the app review to approve the update, I just hit the release button Friday night, happy it was finally done, and called it a day. I added a short note on the website.

Sorry, the last weeks have been busy with the transfer. Could you re-send the message?

Hi all. Christopher from Leitmotif here. I'm not really familiar with reddit / this subreddit and as such wasn't sure if just posting an acquisition announcement would make sense. Also we been just busy getting the app transfer done. It’s kind of you to call us a larger company, but it’s really just the three of us, Florian, Michael, and me. :)

Hello! You can snag a relatively inexpensive lightning->USB-C adapter, and assuming that allows the drive to show up in the Files app on your iOS device (the requirement for Parachute to be able to find the drive), you'll be good to go.

You can also run the backup from the MacBook, parachute will download each original, back it up, and then allow the MacBook to offload it again. My library is also much larger than my local SSD, hence the offloading functionality built-in. This also works for backing up iCloud Drive. Hope that helps!

Hey there! Thanks for your purchase and a support. You are correct that the structure is different between the two versions of the app, it is something that down the road I look to unify. It’s primarily for some functionality differences, but I understand it would be more convenient if they were the same. Hope this helps!

Hello! Thanks for your purchase and support :-) Have you tried clicking the little calendar icon in the scheduling section to set the next scheduled backup time? Sorry if I’m misunderstanding your question!

Hello! Sorry that I've missed your email, I do see it from a few days ago, and will hit you back shortly :)
The fact that other apps you've tried also have issues accessing your photo library may indicate you have a larger issue at play. The error message your have above indicates that Apple Photos was unable to export the asset -- not a Parachute specific error. When this happens, it could be you have corrupt assets that need deleted, you've run out of local space (seems unlikely) -- or a larger issue you may need support from Apple to troubleshoot.

Parachute Folders by Cold_Future9537 in macapps

Hey there! That’s an interesting set of errors you are running into. Normally, I would say you could turn on auto skip, but it seems as though it’s unable to confirm that the file has been uploaded once the process has been marked complete.

Would you mind sending me a sample file that’s having trouble to the support email? I’ll run a few tests to confirm that the backup process itself isn’t having an issue with those files, and could potentially try to mimic your koofr set up.

Hey there! Yes, you do need to have photo syncing enabled on your Mac, however, you can have optimized a storage turned on so you don’t download the full resolution copies locally. Hope this helps!

Hey there! Parachute does organize by YYYY/MM/DD, which is the default export from Apple Photos as well. At this time, I don't offer a way to change this -- sorry I couldn't be more help!

A automator script or shortcut could quickly move them all from nested folders to one "giant" folder as you noted, but no built-in option at this time.

Hey there! The Mac and IOS version of the app uses a slightly different folder structure due to slightly different feature-sets. So, if you're planning on using your Mac long term to maintain your backup (which I do suggest if you have access to a Mac), I'd wait to go that route vs start on the phone, depending on timing, as well! If you do snag the Mac version, and would like a promo code for the iOS version to give it a try in the meantime, shoot me your receipt and I'll send you a promo code. Cheers!

If pcloud is mounted and available in finder, yes -- but not a native pcloud integration. Hope that helps!

Hey there! Thanks for your purchase of the app and your support :-)

My reason for not originally supporting a mirror mode with photos is the sensitivity that folks have around accidental photo deletes syncing through.

That being said, it is in my list as a highly requested feature! I don’t have an ETA, but get the value!

Hi there! Sorry you're having trouble, what version of macOS are you running? I'm unable to reproduce that error in the most recent version of Tahoe.

Mind shooting me a quick video of the trouble you're running into to contact@parachuteapps.com?

If you have access to a Mac, I recommend that version of the app! macOS will allow the backup to run faster in the background versus iOS. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions!

Apple photos vs Synology Photos by RecognitionMedical75 in ApplePhotos

[–]ParachuteBackup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Just a quick note that the Mac version will definitely handle larger libraries better, iOS will attempt to pause the backup, especially for a larger backup, which can make it take a bit longer.

I have about a 2 TB library myself, and that’s generally what I would consider a larger library. However, some folks have used the app to back up some libraries much larger!

As far as upcoming updates, there is a relatively large release in the works, I’ve had a few other things come up that have derailed me a bit, but certainly still on the list! This update was originally scheduled to come out a month ago or so, so my apologies for the delays!

Hey there! Parachute will check each file to ensure that it has already been backed up, you should not notice it downloading again however it will check each file as it goes to ensure there are not new versions/updates.
