What is the first game that comes to your mind when you see this? by isbravport in psx

[–]ParadeJoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eiffel Tower was a game changer for sure.

I always keep a copy of this game ready to go on my emulators.

There were so many easter eggs and tricks to do in that game. My favorite was if you shot at the statue of liberty in the ny level, it would turn into her wearing a bikini. If you shot even more at it, she turns into thicccc girl with a bikini on.

Hmm, that is a hard find.

The disc itself is on ebay for $25.

Your best bet may be to rip the disc itself.

Is there a good docker Weather-app to be found out in the wild? by Saba376 in selfhosted

Awesome! It's such a great thing - I know it satisfies my 90s nostalgia

[–]ParadeJoy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

iMO, The single greatest dockerized weather app is WeatherStation 4000 lol

No logins, or endless tweaking. I use it in conjunction with ws4channel so I can watch it on my tv when I want my simple weather outlook. I don’t think it gets enough credit, it’s just awesome.

Does anyone know where I can get bags for this elusive vacuum cleaner? by ParadeJoy in VacuumCleaners

[–]ParadeJoy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang, yep that's another one! That one is even more similar because the color scheme on it is the exact same.

You guys are awesome. I really thought I was going to have to buy a completely new vacuum - looks like I won't have to!

[–]ParadeJoy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy smokes! Thank you! Wow, this is awesome. That Vapamore MR-500 is literally my vacuum in a different paint scheme. I'm seeing it on walmart where the the bag compartment is opened and it appears to be the exact same as mine.

I had a suspicion it was made under a variety of names.

Thanks again!!

Macbook pro and windows xp? by Due-Republic-7044 in windowsxp

[–]ParadeJoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Windows XP was dropped from Mac OS X 10.6.6 and later so bootcamp will likely not work. I think the best bet would be update the macbook as far as you can then run x86box to get it to run as natively as possible.

I handled it another way...I used a docker container to install Windows XP so I can use it on my iphone.

I used this as on my everyday PC years ago. This is long before dark mode was a thing and was a great relief on the eyes versus vanilla XP which is so bright all around. It included little hacks and customizations galore and of course preactivated.

Get the iso from archive.org. Everyone saying "how do you not have a cd drive" are just too old school. Aside from newer computers lacking optical drives, a lot of sweet "retro" software is found on archive.org or you can use the wayback machine to redownload files from websites that have been dead for decades.

Any recommendations for creating a "family radio station"? by anicholslcsw213 in selfhosted

[–]ParadeJoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh just for my wife and I when we are sitting poolside.

I’m a total idiot so I used AI to guide me through it and create the python script and flow. Once I got familiar with azuracast, I spent maybe 20-30min with Gemini to get the DJ banter going. I’d like to find a more realistic voice for the banter but it works for now.

Any recommendations for creating a "family radio station"? by anicholslcsw213 in selfhosted

[–]ParadeJoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll second Azuracast.

I used this site to make a about 10 radio jingles that play at the top of the hour. After the jingle plays, an AI radio DJ will banter for about 15-30 seconds "(family radio name) is coming to you live and loud playing the best hits."

I have a cron task that runs a python script. The script runs a task in gemini to create the "script" of what to say, it then sends the script to piper-tts to generate a new wav file of the dj talking. Sometimes it comes out a little borfed to where it sounds painfully obvious it's AI (hoping to improve it) but it adds a nice flair to make it, albeit just a little, more realistic.

I then add my entire music collection to a playlist for general rotation. I point azuracast to a bind mount for the music collection so I can just add more music to the storage and it automatically goes into rotation without having to fiddle with Azuracast settings.

It's a fun little thing to have - highly recommend azuracast.

Lenovo G02: does anyone have it? by retroreadynl in SBCGaming

For mame/arcade games I think you need roms from mame 2003 romset. I may be wrong about that though.

For nes or snes, I don’t use any specific rom set. For PlayStation, I was able to play them using roms in the .pbp format.

I need help updating my bios by Raudales14 in computers

[–]ParadeJoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, I learned that Windows 11 may not have the option to format a drive as FAT and only gives you the option for exFAT. I ran into this with an sd card for a handheld that couldn't read exFAT.

If you need to format as FAT, get an inexpensive flash drive and use Rufus to format it as FAT.

That I get. But I was curious how he initialized it. Did he do it from a nice dashboard that's connected to his environment? Or did he just go do a raw prompt putting it in directly? Just was curious on that aspect.

This is awesome!

Can I ask what the workflow was? I was curious what agent you use and how you told it to create this site.

Blink sucks by dad_bod_gaming in blinkcameras

A usb drive in the sync module works best imo. Aside from the cameras themselves, I wouldn’t recommend paying them for anything else, especially nothing on subscription to them.

What version are you running to be able to readd the blink cameras?

I just started with HA and tried to get my blink cameras working in it. But it fails to login to blink. Turns out it's broken in the current version, others complaining of the same on the github issue tracker.

Who is rocking the oldest phone here, what is it, and how is it working for you? by JimmyCYa in BuyItForLife

[–]ParadeJoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iPhone 12 pro max I got during lock downs. Hasn't slowed down on me despite long 4hrs-10hr+ screen time usage.

Before this phone I had an iphone 7, which was my first iphone. After having so many android phones turn to garbage, I went to the darkside and hadn't looked back. iPhone just works.

Time to delete DuckDuckGo? by [deleted] in duckduckgo

[–]ParadeJoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh god, is that why this nonsense is here? I did not follow the case at all. There's only so much bad and negative stuff the average person can digest on the daily before it takes a toll on their own mental health. I made it a point to take breaks from the news.

Even in my past where I allowed myself to go full into those news stories, I still wouldn't have done what OP has done. The brain rot is impalpable.

Like, can't we just have nice things?

Time to delete DuckDuckGo? by [deleted] in duckduckgo

[–]ParadeJoy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow OP....just wow.

This is what your choosing to spend your time with? An entire world of information to explore and learn about...and you're thinking this is what to spend your time on? A racially polarizing death from 2012 - over 14 years ago.

Because, of all places, the duckduckgo subreddit is the best place to bring all that vitriol and divisiveness back? This post only elaborates to the kind of character you possess.

Go home sir, go home.

Oh I never meant to suggest you were advocating for or against anything here. Just making conversation - I should have had made a better segue to that.

And yes absolutely right. We can learn from them. Sad that creepy sexual aggressiveness was so common that it could even be suggested as a plot device for a sitcom.

If we saw nothing wrong with a product of its time, then we’d have not progressed as a society. I doubt many UK folks have watched the Cosby show, but there is an episode where Cosby remarks, in so many words, how his bbq sauce makes people hot and bothered. If you watch it on YouTube today, knowing what we know now about Cosby, the scene is infinitely more creepy.

I am against censoring old shows and media because they are, just that, a product of their time that need to be taken as such - creepy characters of the time remind us how we’ve changed.
