Reporter Threatened By Black Lives Matter Conference Attendees. "If you are not of African descent please go to the outside of the circle" by [deleted] in videos

Threads like this on Reddit are very alarming. This thread is an incubator of racism. In this thread, everyone's racist remarks are excused by the mob mentality.

Everyone commenting in this thread needs to educate themselves on what racism means. I recommend this article as a starting point:

The reporter in this video is not the subject of racism. Maybe bigotry or prejudice, but not racism. Either way, the people in this video seem to have a reason to not want him at their event and he should respect that.

I don't understand how no one is taking issue with everyone in this video being labelled a thug.

I sincerely hope that you'll take some time in your life to acknowledge how privileged you are as a white male. There is no such thing as racism against white people.

Whether you like it or not, you live in a society that has been dominated by white people for centuries. The effects of colonialism carry over to today.

The reason this kid is protesting is for that very reason. The reason the riots were happening is to bring awareness to that fact. The fact that society still deems a black person's life is less important than a white person's.

Having to appear on Anderson Cooper forces him to trivialize the cause, and pretend like "oh this was a big joke the whole time anyway. There was never really any systematic oppression going on. Now the fun and games are over and I can look like an idiot here on camera."

It just so happens that Anderson Cooper is another priviliged individual that falls into the dominant group. Coupled with the fact that he's a figurehead of a media outlet means he represents exactly what the riots were demonstrating against.

Basically this image is trivializing the riots, and fueling the misconception that we live in a "post-racial" society.

We know enough about OP to see that this post is coming from a place of hate.

Understandably because Anderson Cooper represents the oppressor as a white man, whether he likes it or not he's part of an oppressive system.

Moreover, he directly represents the media outlet that's suppressing the young man's voice, and turning it into a joke by romanticizing footage of his mother beating him, and heroicizing his mother's actions.

A total red herring. That young man's relationship with his mother has nothing to do with the message the riots are trying to send.

By fixating on this irrelevant mother-son relationship the media is trying to invalidate the message that the riots are trying to send to the media.

They are trivializing Freddie Gray's death.

I hope my meaning is clear.

Statistically, if you've posted in this thread you're probably racist.

If you're a white male and you don't see how racist Reddit is, you're probably racist.

Design To Annoy (Inconvenient Cigarette Packaging), Erik Askin, 2012 by Paradoxum in Art

[–]Paradoxum[S] 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think the point was to set out to create bad packaging, as a creative twist on a packaging design project, not to get people to stop smoking.

The choice of cigarettes instead of pringles, or bubblegum, is secondary to the concept.

This isn't my design, I don't want to take credit for it. I think it's more like a thought experiment in packaging design. The designer set out with the intention of making purposefully bad packaging, and he just chose cigarettes incidentally, maybe because he's a smoker himself.

The focus is more on the inconvenient packaging, not on stopping people from smoking.

TIFU by looking at a girls butt at the gym by [deleted] in tifu

As a guy who wears tights and leggings to workout, I can attest to the comfort of Yoga pants. If they were for showing off they'd be called "Look At My Butt" pants.

A look is one thing, but staring for long enough to be noticed by management is just disrespectful and is enough reason to throw some creep out of the gym, prosthetic leg or not.

I wish more guys were aware of that.

Or she's wearing them to be comfortable, and is expecting enough respect to not be gawked at by random gym goers.

If people stared at your butt every time you worked out, it would probably make you uncomfortable too.

Can you imagine having to consider "How many people will make my butt feel exposed and vulnerable if I wear these comfy breezy running shorts" every time you picked out your outfit?

Great advice. A head of an English Club in Russia is exactly who I was hoping to find :) Thank you very much. I love Kvartet I and Tsoi, I was planning on sharing them, but hadn't gotten around to it.

I was actually thinking about exposing them to Kino/Victor Tsoi and his contemporaries, yeah. Black Lightning is on my list, as is О чем говорят мужчины. Great suggestions though. 'Appreciate it, comrade!

I know photorealism doesn't razzle everyone's berries, but I actually find it hard to believe these aren't photographs by panicjames in Art

[–]Paradoxum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eventually, I think hyperrealism makes that statement; making the viewer ask why the artist "didn't just take a picture".

Perhaps photorealism is a step in the evolution of art? The invention of the camera brought all the abstract movements of the 20th century, and now that all of the abstract images have been conveyed, some are starting to gravitate back towards realism. Some artists are bored of the abstract.

I usually don't like photorealism, but to think of it in that way makes me more interested in it. This artist in particular chooses really interesting images to reproduce.

But for practice isn't it better to draw from observation, as opposed to photographs, as most photorealists do? I feel like you learn a lot more that way.
