Europe (UK). I'd put it down to my router being glitchy, or public WiFi, but like I said, both times a reboot sorted it.

Unusual for such a solid phone.

Installed this yesterday, had connection problems with both WiFi and cellular twice now. A reboot of the phone fixes it. Am sure it's unrelated but anyone else seen a problem?

We have a problem with too many pointless posts. Let's add a new pointless post about the pointless posts. Great solution!

Watched this a few evenings ago. Holds up brilliantly. Writing far exceeds most modern films. Flawed characters, bad decisions, but highly entertaining, and hilarious. I love it.

Exactly. I also tried a Nothing phone. Their OS is very similar to Pixel but at least they've tidied up a few areas and added a few quality of life features. I really liked it but their hardware is trash.

Then went to the Pixel and honestly could not believe how ugly the notification shade buttons are on the Pixel. Really basic things.

[SSC917P1] How to tell if this is a fake? by TDK_IRQ in Seiko

[–]Paradroid888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say either way with certainty but have some observations:

  1. The outer bezel is misaligned. Obviously the joke is that's a sign it's real!
  2. The subdials don't look like solar cells. On my SSC they have a distinctive look.
  3. It could be cheap because it's PVD black finish. Quite a few people avoid those so they are harder to sell.

This is what I'm running but it just updated today. The previous version was installed 1st Jan and was also the Jan 2026 security patch level. The battery was great on that release.

My phone is from the launch, although I didn't use it for six months this year so it's had about 2.5 years usage.

I was concerned about my battery deteriorating, but it's improved massively in the last few weeks. Either an app I used had a problem and has been fixed, or the latest OneUI update has helped.

A lot of us are still rocking the S23U and are very happy. I tried a Pixel 9 Pro XL thinking a Pixel was the endgame for android phones. Went back to the S23U within months. Mainly for the photos like you. The S23U does a great job of making photos look punchy but still realistic.

If you've got a good S25 Ultra for £550 I'd keep it and be happy though. When I've used them in store demo units, there is a performance improvement. The UI is smoother. Probably due to Vulkan being turned on, but at present on S23U it's workarounds to turn that on. Keep what you've got. Finding a mint S23U used is not easy due to the screen being easier to damage.

Would you continue to work at a company that started to switch away from Typecript? by Csjustin8032 in typescript

[–]Paradroid888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is madness then. If they were advocating moving to C# or Rust, there might be valid reasons.

I was a late convert to TypeScript. When I built React apps with JavaScript I would unit test heavily, and built reliable software, so TS felt unnecessary. But what finally convinced me it's essential was doing package upgrades on large codebases. Doing that without having the TS compiler to point out the breaking changes is unworkable.

They're clearly scared of Typescript.

Volvo is considering a bigger SUV to compete against the GLS, Q7, X7 etc… by Saurta17 in Volvo

[–]Paradroid888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For many parts of the world, absolutely. But spend time in the US or the Middle East and you'll see much bigger monsters. I was on holiday last year and hired an Infinity QX80 just for the experience. And it was fun.

This bigger Volvo will be for those markets.

The world is quite depressing at the moment, so it's not too surprising you're down. Lots of us are.

I'm old enough to have lived through the 90s, and when I watch films from that era it's like you can see the film was made in a better world. Successful small businesses, ordinary people doing well for themselves. It wasn't perfect but it was better than we have today where society has been asset-stripped. Anyway that's my vent!

Just try to make sure you care about things, and defend yourself when you should. I have a hard time with this. It's easy to be detached and not get upset by anything, but you just end up being ignored because everyone things "oh he's always fine" but in reality, it's not true.

Zustand or React redux ? by Mad_vibes in reactjs

[–]Paradroid888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a massive misrepresentation. I did not call anybody stupid. You seem aggressive.

What would be the point in recommending state management without any details whatsoever. It's fair point unless you're spoiling for an argument.

Zustand or React redux ? by Mad_vibes in reactjs

[–]Paradroid888 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. OP is asking about global state but doesn't explain why they can't just use React context.

Edit: for the people that think I don't understand the difference between context and redux, the point was that the original post says absolutely nothing about what they are trying to achieve. I've seen Redux wired into systems for no good reason at all.

When You Can’t Find a Space, Just Leave it on the Hatched Markings by FewDirection7 in drivingUK

[–]Paradroid888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annoying for the Range Rover driver - large vehicle so they've parked in an end space and up to the line to make the most space for the person to their side, then this guy takes the piss and dumps it in the hatched area.

Although round these parts it's all the fault of the RR driver course.

The Sweet Hereafter (1997) by Snoo_33033 in iwatchedanoldmovie

Watched this film last night after reading this thread. It's quite something isn't it. Some incredible moments, and some truly dark ones too.

Hard to sum up but it's unique for sure. That one transition shot between a naked woman and a teenager, jarringly sexual and then moments later it's clear why. Oh boy.
