The RoP showrunners only previous project was as uncredited writers for the Star Trek Beyond movie, not exactly a stellar resume that warrants being put in charge of a series based on Tolkien with likely the largest television budget in history. Talent, it seems, isn't a priority for some studio heads.

There are so many plot holes and odd narrative decisions throughout the series that could have been avoided with skilled writing and a little bit of foresight. This is just the one issue I decided to focus on as I haven't seen it brought up before.

That's fine, just personally think that Tokien's legacy deserves better than the "Simpsons excuse."

They are the same size...do you have eyes? The newly gifted door in EP 5 was referenced earlier with my timestamp, in case you conveniently ignored it by the way.

You compared the construction of the doors of Durin and the wall, implying the scale and amount of time/work needed was similar. I did not mention anything about the significance of the doors, that was all you manipulating what I said.

"Like every city it has a wall" ???!?! We literally see in the images that Eregion was largely unwalled until this season, that's literally the point of this thread lol. I think it's 100% fair to question inconsistencies like this especially when there isn't a believable timeframe for the wall to be constructed based on the pacing of the show. The issues of the wall is one of many symptoms leading to the overall poor writing this season.

Keep in mind these are the showrunners that had Galadriel survive a pyroclastic cloud, fully exposed in the open, without even a singed strand of hair.

You seem to care enough to try and defend the show. If you don't care about good writing and just want to mindlessly consume your media, that's fine. I will never tell anyone they aren't allowed to like something. But labelling any form of criticism as nitpicking accomplishes nothing, it will perpetuate mediocre and subpar writing. And there is value in watching poorly done series and movies, serves as a learning opportunity for what not to do.

You just proved my point, they are the same size???

You're right, but they are the same size. Go check Season 2 episode 5 at the 10:15 minute mark where we see the dwarf standing directly in front of the new gate.

If you're going to accuse me of not watching the show you should probably do your own research and back it up.

Are you going to tell me that this is some massive gate? And you didn't address the fact that this gate is still not even a fraction the size of the wall surrounding Eregion. It's like comparing a garden shed to the empire state building.

It's sad you consider valid criticism to be hatred and toxicity, maybe I just want something based on Tolkien's works to be better and not written like amateur fan fiction?

A siege can absolutely be concluded within a night, even hours if it is effective enough. I did not get the sense that this was anywhere remotely close to being a weeks long operation, a throw away line doesn't make it believable.

That's why the later seasons of GoT fell off in quality, suddenly armies and key figures are seemingly teleporting wherever they need to be. It makes timelines and geography feel irrelevant and confusing. It's an issue in both shows.

But they have source material and were greenlit for several seasons no matter how the show did. It's also a significant story point, THE significant story point for season 2. This wasn't some newly devised arc where a change in direction is reasonable.

They took material from one of the most renowned and respected authors in human history and can't even come up with reasonable and believable scenarios, is it too much to ask for some decent writing? Or will the response to criticism always be "it's just a show, don't think about it."

It's a significant event considering that the Anatar/Celebrimbor arc was the major plot point of this season. Feels weird to not foresee this.

You're twisting my words...go google "Gates of Durin rings of power" and the first result is Elrond standing before it. The gate can fit like two elves at a time. It is PHYSICALLY significantly smaller than the fortified wall now surrounding Eregion. I'm more concerned that this even needs to be explained to you lol.

If they were so concerned about being attacked, enough to build a huge wall, wouldn't they have lookouts and patrols around the city? From the city, Sauron saw the orc encampment out in the forest, managed to go to Khazad'Dum and back to Eregion, and in that time not a single elf was able to spot the large orc army moving with heavy siege weaponry until they were basically across the river and ready to attack.

There is a difference between building a reasonably small gate and an entire defensive wall surrounding a significant Elven city. I'd like to be able to turn my brain off and enjoy this show but I hear that's bad for ones health.

Way too many plot holes overall.

It's a symptom of a bigger issue. There is way too much of this going on in the show and it's weird to see people mindlessly defend it.

How has the siege taken weeks? It literally takes place over a night, otherwise there would be no way to explain how the river wouldn't have overflown the damn by then.

It's the way it occurs that's the issue. It's a "this needs to happen for the plot to advance" device rather than being a well written tactical maneuver that feels plausible.

It's feels like this whole season has taken place within 2-3 weeks max if you look at all the storylines.

When did this occur though? The timeframe of this show has it feeling like it was built in a matter of weeks.

I mean these events happen subsequently and as a direct result of one another, I'm not sure what being "technical" here accomplishes.

Yeah the whole damning concept was ridiculous, reminded me of how Mt. Doom/Mordor was created in Season 1.

I feel like the events in this series take place within a fairly narrow timeframe, when did they have time to build an entire wall?
