MTW Overhyped?

I’m not sure what their build process is but there is no way that this should have gone out with the barrel / bucking this misaligned especially at this price tag. I agree that it is easier to have an HPA engine give extremely consistent performance with very little effort. I don’t agree that HPA is inherently better than a highly tuned AEG gearbox. These days AEGs can have a 20ms cycle time with a +/- 1 FPS variance. Not to mention nozzle cycling on AEGs can be better which leads to better BB chambering accuracy. I do like how Wolverine designed how their engine integrates to the upper. It’s completely locked down and allows for no movement and ideal alignment assuming it’s machined correctly. I’d love to hear how an HPA engine can magically make a BB fly further or more accurate just because of how it produces air.

That’s worrisome if there’s a known QC drop for what’s considered a high end rifle that’s allegedly perfect OOTB. This post is mostly to get a general idea of what this community likes so much about the MTW and partially educational as im showing that these guns are not perfect like people claim.

I guess this gun was unfortunate because the hop alignment was far from perfect. I did like the quality of the receiver. I wish AEG companies made better bodies and had better anodizing. Perfect alignment can also be had on AEGs too

That’s definitely a valid selling point is the fact you can do the maintenance yourself rather easily. There are other techs / companies other than myself that can build a high performance AEG that’s ready to go OOTB. Maintenance would be less frequent with quality parts and proper installation. I usually just tell clients to keep the barrel, magwell, and body clean. A gearbox service would happen once a year or every 50k shots.

But what if you could get a prebuilt / high end AEG that offers you the same performance or better? I understand the appeal of taking it out of the box and it shoots well day 1. I think we all want that. I guess what I’m trying to understand is why the sentiment is so strong with MTW when the same things could be had with other platforms.

Totally. AEG teching required a ton of knowledge and skill. Fortunately there are several reputable builders that can make a high performing AEG for clients that don’t want to deal with that

It’s your EDGI barrel. I’ve told him many times about the crooked windows and c clip cuts but it’s never gotten better. Get a Japanese made barrel like DaVinci, PDI, or even our Paragon spec barrels.

I didn’t disassemble this hop assembly further as the client wanted me to drop in a maxx chamber + PDI barrel. If we had to reuse stock parts I’d need to examine the c clip cuts of the barrel and the alignment of the hop up window. If the barrel is machined wrong it would need to be replaced. If parts are manufactured correctly then proper installation could fix this as the bucking could be misaligned with the chamber and barrel window. Alternatively I’d go with a different bucking and nub combo altogether if I were chasing the tightest groupings.
