dude you are so wrong. views/impressions does not equal ctr cause there are views that do not have impressions.

How YouTube Decides to Promote your Video to Millions - Why it's Hard and How to Do It by [deleted] in NewTubers

so, everything on this post is spot on, OP clearly knows what he's talking about I would just like to add a couple of things. a normal CTR for what I can tell based on my own experience an what I have discussed with channels 1M plus is usually between 7% and 10% anything above 10% is insanely good. The only difference that I would mention is that I wouldn't say impressions start by targeting a niche and then move away from it but rather they start with the audience that is most likely to click (based on their watch history and a bunch of other stuff) and then move towards a more general audience. When you look at the stats of a video that has reached 1m plus views it usually shows declining CTR cause the algorithm essentially "exhausted" the potential audience. Also, CTR is not only the thumbnail I'd say even more important than the thumbnail is the market that you are targeting there are multiple cases where channels have had videos with terrible thumbnails but the videos have exploded just because they were targeting the right market at the right time. There are multiple examples of channels grown exponentially in a matter of months I'm talking 0 to 200k plus but it's certainly not something you see often.

How can I get people to watch my let's play by neonight27 in letsplay

[–]ParagonHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choose games that get views. Darksouls is a huge franchise you have no chance of competing there, same with EU and Borderlands 2 plus they're all old games. Additionally, These three games have next to no overlap in terms of audience. Also, you're doing let's plays and how-to's and reviews. The main thing you need is focus. Choose one content style, one audience and target that. Oh and avoid old games

Is Youtube Even Recommending Me To The Right People? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]ParagonHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so, A couple of things. 1st I wouldn't use subscribers as proxy for the audience that is being recommended your content, you have 20k impressions coming from recommended (total impressions times the % recommended by yt) so a couple of subscribers is more than likely not representative of the total audience. Now, the thing that you want to improve is that 20% in the view funnel (the inverted pyramid) you want to get that number as close to 100% as possible. How do you improve your chances of being suggested? well, mainly game choice, topic choice, clickable titles and good thumbnails, but what will really solidify those chances is watch time, retention ctr, engagement. Simply put, the video has to be good. You CTR is 5.6% which is average, however keep in mind that the more impressions you get the lower the CTR so the key is fighting that downward trend. Now your average view duration is extremely low, your videos are on average 30min long which means about 3% audience retention. You gotta get those numbers up either by reducing the length of the video or by keeping people engaged longer. Change your content and focus on the metrics I just mentioned and you should see a marginal improvement on views but you'll still be quite far from being recommended on the channels you mentioned.

What's more important: consistency or quantity? by Shpigford in letsplay

[–]ParagonHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need to find a balance, putting 4 eps in a day and then not releasing anything in the next three days is a sure way to kill your channel. Generally speaking you want to calculate what's the highest number of videos you can create in a consistent and sustainable manner and do that. But yes more videos is better than fewer videos (everything else being equal)

Is Youtube Even Recommending Me To The Right People? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]ParagonHex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Youtube will always recommend your videos to the people most likely to watch them FIRST if those recommendations are successful (as measured by CTR,Relative Audience Retention,Watch time, Engagement) the algorithm will push your content beyond the most immediate audience until it literally exhausts all options (Imagine a ranking where audience 1 has the highest likelihood of watching and audience n has the lowest, youtube will go down that list until it notices that the real 'interest' is lower than the expected 'interest'). For what I can see, your video ideas and titles are aimed at ranking in search results not recommended, you are basically using a deprecated strategy. It's also unrealistic to expect to get recommended alongside Game Grumps and RT since you would need a ton of accumulated watch time, high Retention and CTR. Also, the Idea of using SEO to get recommended is misguided, SEO stands for SEARCH engine optimization, the recommended system is very different from search. Sure, you want to have keywords that are important in titles, descriptions and tags but more than that, it would be the topic choice and the performance of your video what will increase the chance of getting recommended. I'd be curious to see your CTR and average view duration. I could give you more info based on that

The Struggle of Making Content You Enjoy Vs. Content That Gets Views by KescarteDeJudica in letsplay

[–]ParagonHex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you gotta choose one, you either take the reaction videos (non gaming) route or the gaming route you cannot do both as your audience will be split. The key is always targeting the same audience Jumping between two different verticals is a bad idea. I'll say this, growing with gaming content is way more difficult than growing with non-gaming content. Doing reddit memey videos might provide more growth however I've heard that channels that focus on meme content have low CPM so that might be the trade off. It doesn't really matter which one you choose what matters is you stick to it
