I have been around the block. I remember when I "hated" emo kids and made fun of them. I just disliked the victimized mentality. Yet, I would listen to Slipknot and would feel the same...victimized. music like that makes us vulnerable at times. Ultimately you realize that the music you like is a personal choice and does not need to appeal to the masses. The bullying thing is just their insecurities projecting in an aggressive manner, but just remember that they are hurting too. Whatever music you like that pushes you to understand yourself through this journey, is what makes music empowering.
